FS2020 'Add-Ons'

Featured Replies

Hi,

Ive been away from Flight Sims for quite some time, either due to not having the time or a 'modern' computer.

I used to love building my own airports with ADE, Repaint aircraft to make my own airlines and building flightplans in AIFP, etc, etc in FSX.

Now I have more time available and a new computer to consider FS2020 however, as of yet ive not seen any tools such as ADE and AIFP. Dowes this mean FS2020 does not allow for such things or am I just not looking hard enough.

Im also not seeing anything in the AVSIM library in terms of aircraft models.

Apologise if this has been answered before, if so please point me in the correct direction.

Hi Dave,

Asobo provides a development kit for MSFS that can be installed free of charge. I have used ADE in FSX/P3D, but the new kit works reasonably well and the results are way better than they used to be for P3D. Most people post their sceneries on Flightsim.to, that's why you don't see a lot on Avsim.

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/

is a great resource for all matters regarding scenery development for MSFS.

I thought that ADE had been made to work with msfs.  Can anyone confirm as their website does not indicate?

Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)

Regarding aircraft models, the MSFS freeware scene is somewhat de-centralized, with users having to have knowledge that Company X or Author Y released something for free, but in other cases, the primary addon-on website that people use for free aircraft, repaints, and scenery is called Flightsim.to. (yes its a ".to" domain, but it's legit). I think there is still some use of Avsim's library holdings but by the looks of it only a tiny fraction of any sort of third-party product goes there at this point.

Hi David

You come at a time when this hobby has never been so lively, including in the freeware department !  Tons of liveries, airports, aircraft, tools, you name it you have it  ! It is amazing.

There is even a new site which has been set up around it Microsoft Flight Simulator | MSFS Mods, Add-Ons & Liveries - Flightsim.to which has taken the lead in terms of freeware library.

And, as said by Peter, there are tools  with a free development kit (SDK)  coming with the sim.

Finally this forum  gathers a lot of great painters ready to help.

Again thanks for your replies,

Ive been lloking at the requirements for FS2020, looks like im going to need a larger SSD and a dedicated GPU.

So by the time ive got those 2024 maybe on the cards, for the moment im enjoying FSX at full graphics settings (Never done that before ;))

Look at my sig. The sim runs very well with the sim parameters on high, some on ultra. The simulation core has been much better optimized in MSFS than in FSX and earlier versions of P3D. No tedious tuning needed !  I am sure that a 13700/4090 would give me a better experience but you can a really good simming with low-end machines.  A 500 GB SSD is the minimum required in my opinion if you go with all the free sceneries (so called World Updates) that MSFS has released over the years.  A 1T or more makes even more sense.

Last thing, if you go with FS20 and add a lot of freeware or payware, do yourself a favor and download a free addons named AddOns Linker to organize your stuff.

You can build or modify airports just with the SDK.

A few videos to get started.

Im currently running Win11 on a AMD Ryzen 9-7900 - 12core 3.7Ghz, 32GB Ram, so im sure thats ok but ive not yet got a dedicated GPU so using the integrated AMD Radeon Graphis with 512MB.

My next 'upgrade' will be the SSD to a M.2 1Tb and then look for the GPU.

Thanks again, Dave

Be sure that the GPU matches the strength of the CPU,  too much stronger would be a waste. Some fellow simmers better qualified than me (I am more an Intel guy) could chime in here.

This bottleneck calculator is quite helpful in balancing CPU and GPU for CPU and GPU intensive tasks. You’ll generally get some bottleneck but under 15% can be ignored and a GPU bottleneck is much less critical than a CPU one.

Even with the fastest CPU/GPU combo at 4K it’s not possible to have perfect balance.
