Quest 3 ? Any owners of Quest 2 upgraded ? Impressions ?

@ohsirus  could you please tell us how did you set up and run Quest 3 in MSFS? Linked or wireless connection, Oculus app or Virtual Desktop, app, settings? The more details the better. I'm very word not allowed to this tethering/streaming game of PCVR.

Also, would be helpful to know your hardware and key settings in MFSF VR. Many thanks!

Not trying to influence you, I don't have referral codes nor am I given review units..lol My opinions are my own.

For some reason my cockpit is not 100% sharp, but then I think it has to do with my RTX 3070 if I had a 4090 I could crank up the texture resolution. For me the G2 was 60% there the Q3 is 75% there but I think the Crystal / Aero with a 4070 would be 95% there for sharpness in the cockpit.

Running a 7800x3d and a 4090 with my Quest 3 on a 6e dedicated router.

I'm rendering MSFS at 37XX x 39XX (can't recall specifics) Terrain LOD 200, Clouds High, Texture Ultra, TAA, can't recall the others, but mix of High/MED.

In the Oculus App running 1.5 encoder.

I'm using Virtual Desktop with AV1 10-bit or HVEC 10-bit and Godlike settings, no autobitrate and no buffer.

Using SteamVR2.0 beta (make sure you close all oculus programs in task bar and disable Openxr if you are using it).

This guy was my baseline.

SteamVR is very confusing to me. I got it from Steam but not sure whether its 2.0 beta - if not where to get it?

Also, did you mean disable the OpenXR toolkit? Since SteamVR needs to run through OpenXR?

" In the Oculus App running 1.5 encoder." - is this referring to the windows app of Oculus? No idea where is the "1.5 encoder". When running Virtual Desktop, Oculus app is not needed, right?

Sorry for these many questions - I really don't know much about this streaming connection thing.

SteamVR beta opt-in https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/4F5E-AD22-7402-2EAD

Some people run the OpenXR Toolkit https://mbucchia.github.io/OpenXR-Toolkit/ and it's not compatible with Virtual Desktop.

1.5X in the Oculus Graphic preferences https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2F5a623ey63xza1.png%3Fwidth%3D1016%26format%3Dpng%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D1d1045a5b91286e6fb0fa8f586d28484e51e4866

Also make sure SteamVR is set for the openXR runtime when you start SteamVR. In your taskbar right click settings to ckeck.

Also when you are in SteamVR check the Video page and make sure it's at 100% and not 150% as it can default too.

Thank you! Will find time to give it try again. What I had done were similar to what you said, except I wasn't running SteamVR beta. If still no luck I'll wait for VituralDesktop-XR for one last try..

You can use the current steamvr when you open steam there is also streamvr  - this needs to be running when you want to run fs2020 in VR mode.

What an amazing experience, first proper take off to fully landed flight since I have had the Q3, it really looks good! Took off from Prosperine to Emerald in Queensland Australia,  looking down on the Australian terrain the sounds of the jet engines behind me, due to the lenses first time I saw a river wind its way all the way to the ocean probably some 50 to 70 kms away - just amazing, there is still stutters / shaking when i move my head from side to side, don't know what the cause of this is, maybe due to my rtx 3070 over wifi, but looking down on the terrain below is sharp !

First time I saw solar panels of roof of houses !

Looked down on the cockpit seat and saw the stitching in the carpet (CJ4)
Looked left and saw in clear writing the fuse labels -
Looked out saw the valleys and mountains simply amazing, then I think imagine how good this would look in a Crystal / Aero...
Early days yet I think only going to get better.

the Q3 offers great value for money,

& once get hang of the software tweaks required it becomes quite easy to tune,

personally, been using the Quest Pro for about six months & it’s great with AirLink & MSFS (WiFi 6 router with Ethernet connection to PC)…

You just had your “Wow” moment. Getting a Crystal or Aero now won’t seem such a jump and hard going to aspherical lenses once you get used to pancakes.

Virtual Desktop-OpenXR released. Tested it out and got about a 10 percent FPS increase compared to SteamVR and IMHO improved visuals. Nice to have access to the OpenXR toolkit program again. One setting I was missing was the over-prediction reduction. I run mine at -70 and that eliminates that shuttering yoiu get inside the cockpit with Quest devices.

I tried Oculus USB link again last night. I used Oculus debug tool to set h264 and 650mbps bitrate, and finally was able to disable the xxxxly annoying ASW by pressing ctrl-num 1 in MSFS (setting ASW off in ODT don't do the job, extremely frustrating). With ASW off, I finally got stable images in MSFS that is playable. This is with TAA = 100%, resolution 2704x2896 pixels (resolution was maxed to 1.3x/5408 in Oculus windows app),

I believe this is the highest or very close to the highest possible image quality I can expect from Q3 in PCVR? If so I have to say G2 is still a clear winner. Visual clarity wise, Q3 is just a notch below G2, like 90% of G2. For someone never experienced the best level of G2 clarity, Q3 would look very good or even great, but once I put back on G2, there is still no comparison. G2 is so obviously sharper and clearer, with much more details and nature shadow transitions.

Performance wise Q3 is close but also lower than G2. Q3 image quality still suffer from video like looking due to compression, especially when you compare to G2  the shadows and textures in Q3 are definitely mushed to certain degree, although not intolerable.

I ran G2 with OpenXR at 225% scale + DLSS/Quality in MSFS, which gives me outstanding clarity and good performance in G2 (around 35fps, TLOD=300-400). I also use a third party faceplate that, I feel, helps to make G2 sweet spot a bit bigger, but no question Q3 is miles better with its edge to edge clarity.

All considered, G2 is better, although Q3 is not too far behind. If you can't push G2 to its limits by supersampling like I do, I would believe that Q3 could look as good as G2. I don't know, but I begin to consider keeping both G2 and Q3...

I could not find the link.. Could you paste it here? I have problem with VD though as although VD says my 5G connection is around 400-500mbs, its streaming rate is stuck at 61mbps. Maybe I should buy a air bridge..

Believe me I've had plenty of Wow moments in VR lol, Interesting comment about the Crystal, yes I think Q3 maybe 80% of picture quality of Crystal - I say this as my cockpit instruments are not 100% sharp like I've seen in the youtube videos of Crystal / Aero.
