Alaska and Northwest multiple CTD's

Featured Replies

Hello, I've not had any problems till tonight.  I wanted to make a PMDG 737 flight from PANC to KSEA.

When I try to spawn the plane on the runway I get a CTD so here's what I did.  I'm sorry in advance as this might be a lot.

The sim runs, I select a plane, and then PANC, the blue loading bar gets to 90% then CTD.

So I tried other airports and the A2A Cherokee as a test.

KBOS - PMDG - OK

PANC - PMDG - CTD

PANC - A2A Cherokee - CTD

PAEN - PMDG - CTD

KATL - PMDG - OK

PAKT - Cherokee - OK

PAKT - PMDG - OK

PANC - PMDG - RWY 15 - CTD

Then I uninstalled PANC through ORBX Direct, ran the sim, Tried the default Pitts at PANC - CTD

PAHO - Pitts - CTD

KLAX - Pitts - OK

Then I uninstalled Orbx's Alaska Mesh through Direct - PANC - Pitts - CTD

I wanted to try flying from PAHO to PANC but it also CTD'd with the Cherokee.

KRNT - Cherokee - CTD

Finally I started a flight in the A2A Cherokee at KORS and as a test want to see if I can even fly to PANC.

Is anyone else having problems with Alaska?  Is it my sim?

Here's the Event Viewer text, I have no idea what all this stuff means though.

It's been a while since I've flown to PANC myself, so I'll need to try it again soon...

Based on your scenario, it sounds like a scenery issue of some sort, since you're CTDing at PANC and other locations across multiple aircraft.

Something you could also try: clear out the scenery index caches and let the sim rebuild them. I'd recommend removing the ORBX Alaska Mesh [again], then also removing this file:
* %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SceneryIndexes\orbx-mesh-alaska.dat

Repeat that process for any other scenery file that you think might be conflicting: disable the add-on, and also remove the corresponding DAT to let the sim rebuild the file as needed.

You could also just delete all of the DAT files and let the sim rebuild those too. Those work for me any time the sim freezes or CTD when it loads an aircraft that somehow got into a bad state.

Thank you sir, I very much appreciate it.  If I do this all I need to know is will this change my Options settings?

Best regards,

Jack

Your options shouldn't be impacted - those are stored in different folders (as long as you don't touch anything outside of /SceneryIndexes); some [like controls] are saved/synced to/from the cloud.

Manny thanks, I’ll try this when I get a chance later today.  Last night it was something like 50-50 that it would not CTD.  It only happens when I spawn an aircraft at an airport, not flying or any other time.

I’m sorry if I’m a pain but could you please tell me exactly how to find this file?  Where is this %LOCALAPPDATA folder to begin with?

I have flown out of PANC several times in the last couple of weeks, using the PMDG 737. No problems at all. I use the default PANC and the Alaska mesh. Flown to PAFA, PABR, PAKT.

%LOCALAPPDATA% is a great Windows shortcut to wherever your C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local folder resides.

Just paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SceneryIndexes\ into the address bar of a Win Explorer window, then hit the Return / Enter key on your keyboard to go to that folder location.

Thanks.  I seems this all started as Landon stated after update 13.  Not it’s extremely frustrating.  It’s hit or miss if the sim will CTD just spawning and only spawning.  Maybe my PC isn’t powerful enough anymore.  Dunno.  DOn’t have the time now to post specs or much else as I have real world stuff to attend to.  I get this distinct impression that it’s Alaska and the Pacific Northwest area causing this.  I may be wrong.

Thanks Max, will do this as soon as I am able.  Extremely busy right now sadly.

I flew to PANC several times as well without any problem. I would recommended to empty community folder and try again

Empty the entire Community folder?  If I did that I’d lose the shortcut icons and would have to reinstall everything.  I’m not up for that yet.  Thanks though.

Why do you have shortcut icons in your community folder, rather than on your desktop?

Inside my Community folder I have little yellow folder icons with arrows on them.  Maybe I’m not up to speed with the correct nomenclature.  These little yellow folders with arrows I suppose come from the ORBX Direct folder among other like INI?

Yesterday as a test I moved the PANC folder with the little arrow to the desktop.  It then lost its arrow.  When I moved it back to the community folder it no longer had the arrow.

I don’t know a lot about this stuff.  One thing I do not want to do under any circumstances is use that addon linker.  Personal reasons.

Whoah. Are you loading up on the runway each time? Traffic settings? Have you removed every single addon yet? This sounds severe. I would remove every single thing from the community folder (planes, liveries and scenery etc) and even remove addons from the MSFS menu under content that you bought (the marketplace). Some above mentioned deleting a few caches....I would recommend that as well.

I fly several different payware and freeware planes around PANC, Fairbanks, Kodiak islands in various weather and I have a ton of scenery. KSEA, KPDX, KORS etc etcThis seems like a conflict from a scenery to another.

Have you thought about using AddonLinker? It's free and easy. You put all freeware and payware into a separate folder and it automatically "links" these to the community folder when you check the check box. It makes it really easy to help with loading times and ruling out issues like this.

Example: I will often clean out the community by "unlinking" all products and delete the entire contents of the folder if I have issues. There are a ton of tutorials on youtube how to do this. I highly recommend it to help you.
