Continual CTDs when zooming in world map

I agree. If it was due to SU13 everyone would be having CTD's. I am on SU13 for months and don't have any CTD's, and I believe most people don't have them as well.

Just to add to this, I don't have CTD's but I also don't scroll around the map zooming in and out trying to find one. My typical use is typing the ICAO, the map zooms in, I click on the gate for departure and click fly now. Never had a crash doing this. But I guess I will try to scroll the map and zoom in and out next time to see if I get a CTD.

I'm so glad I found this thread, this has been driving me mad this past week. All of a sudden it doesn't matter whether you're using stock aircraft, things purchased like the ATR or FBWA32NX .. I can barely finish a cockpit setup without a CTD and its when its doing it still (despite all the attempts to clean everything out, reinstall, update every drivers and remove every possible cause I can think of) when zooming in on the world map I know it can't be say, the FBW addon. Perhaps some sanity can be kept then, maybe its just bust till the next update

Sorry to give you some bad news but in a thread I started on the official forums the moderator stated that they not seen any increase in CTDs so I’m guessing they’ll not be investigating it as a high priority. At the moment we’re on our own to find out what has changed.

This thread seems to be getting some traction now so, hopefully, we can see a fix soon. At least it's officially been tagged as a bug.

I have a completely clean version of Windows 11 with just one program installed, the most vanilla version of MSFS you can install, without even a single addon or update. I'm still getting CTDs constantly, more often while the flight is loading, as opposed to when moving the world map around, but I've experienced both. IMHO, there's hardly a reason to keep troubleshooting your own system. The bug seems to be on MS/Asobo's end. For me, there's nothing more I can do to remove any possible conflicts and I'm still getting CTDs.

While that’s good news about the bug logged tag sadly it doesn’t guarantee a timely fix. The issue regarding being restricted to 2.5mbps at the start of content download has been bug logged since end of June and is still not fixed!

(I’m extra grumpy this morning as my very first flight resulted in a CTD! Like you I’ve a completely clean windows11 with only MSFS installed and an empty community folder. I’ve had less than a dozen CTDs in 3 years and now get a couple every session - it’s hard to take!)

Touch wood .. I've seen some successful stock aircraft only flights and midway through the most successful FBWA320 I've had in a couple of weeks.

Assuming there is any causality to it all .. DLSS. I switched to TAA

I reinstalled MSFS yesterday after a 8 month break.   All went fine, other than I now too have this darned bug.   The sim CTDs if I scroll when on the world map.   At the moment, I can only use the sim by finding my origin airport using the drop down 'search' field.   I can move around the map but as soon as I scroll, I get the CTD.       This happened to me before about 2 years ago and I'm sure the issue (for me) was with the mouse assignments.  I remember deleting my mouse assignments, then making a new profile, based on the default.    So that's what I'll be trying tonight!   (Deleting rolling cache, etc, didn't fix it for me last night).

[EDIT:  Found a workaround that works for me.  Setting the map to "IFR" mode.  It's darn ugly, but it doesn't crash when I scroll around the map any more]

I have a theory this is caused by the slowness of the streaming and the overlays of 3rd party airport phototiles on the world map, or at least aggravated by it. Fwiw. Every time I go to an aftemarket airport it lags when I zoom in.  I got the latest drivers for rtx cards, went in and reset all my Nvidia settings and flightsim settings following q8pilots recomendations on youtube. now I'm stable again so far.  The ctds were getting to be way too frequent.  Actually mine were so bad the computer just locked up solid to the point the audio froze the screen went dark and then the computer restarted.  I do have Rex  accuseason installed.   I'm going to do more testing tonight but so far no crashes.

Hello! New here.

It turns out that disabling the weather layer in the filters of the world map fixes the crashes for me.
Found a reply in this thread here:
https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/sim-crashes-when-zooming-in-at-the-worldmap/607606/340

Somebody used a mod to set the weather layer off by default and noticed the game no longer crashes on the world map. Disabling it manuallly also did the trick for me (just that I gotta do it every time I start the sim).

Registered only to let you guys know.

Further testing showed it might still crash, but it appears to happen a lot less. Turning the map to IFR instead to sattelite though gave me 0 crashes in over 20 minutes of fiddling around with the world map.

With "JayDee´s World Map Filter Presets" I managed to have it set that way by default and had no CTD on the world map since.

I'm getting CTDs constantly now and it's not from Rex AccuSeason. I do own it but disabled it (along with every other addon I own) almost immediately when the CTDs started. Like others in the official forum have reported, I even get CTDs while in safe mode now. The worst part about it for me is that it seems to be getting worse. When I posted on the MS forum a few days ago, I was just getting the CTDs occasionally. And then almost 3 days went by without a single CTD. And now, all of a sudden, MSFS is crashing almost instantly. I can't even load the previously flown aircraft at the previously departed airport without a CTD. Before SU13 I could count on one finger the number of CTDs I had. I will try the IFR map now and see if it makes a difference. Thanks for the tip.

I have the exact same problem!

Guys, it looks like this crash when zooming in the world map may be caused by having ReBAR (Resizable Bar) enabled. If this is true that's the reason why most of us (including me) don't have this problem.

it would be good if those who changed their internet connection speed to 100Mbps half duplex to try to fix this could revert back and disable ReBAR to test if it fixes the crashes.

yeabut . . . I've had ReBar enabled for ages, but only getting these zoom related problems since SU13. I shall continue to wait and hope SU14 sorts it.

Ok, if you prefer to lower your internet speed instead of disabling ReBAR, that's your choice. 👍
