5800X3D Kombo Strike

Featured Replies

Has anyone explored using the new Kombo Strike settings in the MSI BIOS with the 5800X3D? Info. seems a bit limited but from what I can tell, it seems to increase performance whilst reducing core voltage and temperatures especially on single core applications (which msfs appears to be).  It would be interesting to share any experiences and feedback especially if anyone has benchmarked with their msfs installation and settings.

From what I am able to tell, it seems to be doing what it is supposed to.

To my knowledge, Kombo Strike is just Curve Optimizer in -10, -20 and -30 steppings. Nothing else.

I think it is MSI's variant of Curve Optimizer, Asrock has a similar bios mode, I use theirs PBO -30 85C with my 7800X3D.

Using setting 3 I appear to be getting a 20% cpu performance enhancement and so far have noticed no increase in temperatures at all.

Well I suppose the proof of the pudding is in the eating and I've flown in my most stuttery areas with this setting over the past couple of days using my usual settings and addons and have had considerably smoother experiences in all of them.

My problem areas were New York, London, Cologne, Manchester and Rio mainly because of the number of addons I use and the experience was positive (I also need to try LA as that was a bit iffy before).

If you have a 5800X3D and an MSI mobo, I would suggest you try it and let us know how it feels for you.

Excuse the bump, but I'm surprised that given my improvements in temperatures and clock speeds that more of you have not tried this very simple tweak (it's just one setting in the bios which can be changed back in the few seconds it takes to change it).  Is it that not many of you are using the 5800X3D CPU with an MSI bios, perhaps?

It would be really interesting to see if anyone else has tried it and noted any improvement.

It's not an unsafe thing to do like properly overclocking and over volting your CPU.

While I have an 5800X3D, I have a Gigabyte MB, I don't know if GB have any similar boost settings?

As far as I know, it's just an MSI thing.

It's not. As said, it's simply just curve optimizer, every motherboard has that in some form for the X3D chips.

Can either be done in BIOS (usually the best) or with Ryzen Master https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/ryzen-master

Bought my 5800X3D in Jan and changed the PBO curve optimiser thing to -20 in the bios and then a couple of months later changed it to -30. Cinebench CPU test showed a fairly big performance improvement.

I got quite a boost from standard to -30 with my 7800X3D in Cinebench as well, definitely worth trying as it's free.

I have an ASUS motherboard, wonder if it's possible to do the same.

Did you need to update BIOS to enable it on the MSI board?

I see that the latest BIOS updates include a ComboV2PI AGESA version.

I'm on ASUS ROG Strix X570-F Gaming with BIOS 4408. Think there are two newer BIOS versions, but I don't like updating it if not necessary.
