October 20, 20232 yr Has anyone explored using the new Kombo Strike settings in the MSI BIOS with the 5800X3D? Info. seems a bit limited but from what I can tell, it seems to increase performance whilst reducing core voltage and temperatures especially on single core applications (which msfs appears to be). It would be interesting to share any experiences and feedback especially if anyone has benchmarked with their msfs installation and settings. From what I am able to tell, it seems to be doing what it is supposed to. October 20, 20232 yr To my knowledge, Kombo Strike is just Curve Optimizer in -10, -20 and -30 steppings. Nothing else. [MSI MPG X870E Carbon | 9800X3D (PBO +200Mhz / -20 Offset) | Corsair 64GB DDR5 (Custom Timings) | RTX 4090 Founders Edition (Undervolted) | WD SNX 850X 4TB + 4TB | Antec Flux Pro]
October 20, 20232 yr I think it is MSI's variant of Curve Optimizer, Asrock has a similar bios mode, I use theirs PBO -30 85C with my 7800X3D. System: I ASRock X670E | AMD 7800X3D | 64Gb DDR5 6000 | RTX 4090 | 2TB NVMe | Seasonic Vertex 1000W I LG Ultra Gear 34 UW I
October 20, 20232 yr Author Using setting 3 I appear to be getting a 20% cpu performance enhancement and so far have noticed no increase in temperatures at all. October 22, 20232 yr Author Well I suppose the proof of the pudding is in the eating and I've flown in my most stuttery areas with this setting over the past couple of days using my usual settings and addons and have had considerably smoother experiences in all of them. My problem areas were New York, London, Cologne, Manchester and Rio mainly because of the number of addons I use and the experience was positive (I also need to try LA as that was a bit iffy before). If you have a 5800X3D and an MSI mobo, I would suggest you try it and let us know how it feels for you. October 24, 20232 yr Author Excuse the bump, but I'm surprised that given my improvements in temperatures and clock speeds that more of you have not tried this very simple tweak (it's just one setting in the bios which can be changed back in the few seconds it takes to change it). Is it that not many of you are using the 5800X3D CPU with an MSI bios, perhaps? It would be really interesting to see if anyone else has tried it and noted any improvement. It's not an unsafe thing to do like properly overclocking and over volting your CPU. October 24, 20232 yr It's not. As said, it's simply just curve optimizer, every motherboard has that in some form for the X3D chips. Can either be done in BIOS (usually the best) or with Ryzen Master https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/ryzen-master Edited October 24, 20232 yr by Sethos [MSI MPG X870E Carbon | 9800X3D (PBO +200Mhz / -20 Offset) | Corsair 64GB DDR5 (Custom Timings) | RTX 4090 Founders Edition (Undervolted) | WD SNX 850X 4TB + 4TB | Antec Flux Pro]

October 24, 20232 yr Bought my 5800X3D in Jan and changed the PBO curve optimiser thing to -20 in the bios and then a couple of months later changed it to -30. Cinebench CPU test showed a fairly big performance improvement.

October 24, 20232 yr I have an ASUS motherboard, wonder if it's possible to do the same. Did you need to update BIOS to enable it on the MSI board? I see that the latest BIOS updates include a ComboV2PI AGESA version.
