I remember the wind howling overnight, and then suddenly it stopped. I looked out of the window to see the Moon in the sky, and a couple of small clouds drifting slowly by. Soon after that, the strong winds returned. Probably the only time that I have ever witnessed a definitive "eye" in a storm. I think Michael Fish was treated pretty badly. Not his fault that the mechanisms in place weren't as sophisticated as they are today.

There is also ample evidence and testimony that the CIA has been influencing the U.S. media since the 1940s. If it's happening here, then I can guarantee that other "democracies" are doing the same thing. So I for one am glad the authorities are warning us to stay at home and are making preparations for the investable property damage and injuries. Where did I say that the authorities shouldn't warn the public about dangerous weather conditions? I'm talking about the hype that the media engages in with statements like "unprecedented", "worst on record", etc. Of course it is prudent to forewarn people so that they can prepare. November 1, 20232 yr Author Looks like we won't be getting much sleep. Storm is kicking off from 9pm and building throughout the night. Rare, threat to life alert has been given. https://www.itv.com/news/channel/2023-11-01/when-will-storm-ciaran-hit-the-channel-islands-and-how-bad-will-it-be Of course, human nature has been manifest and despite warnings not to panick buy, some of the supermarket shelves are empty. Reminds me of the pandemic toilet roll saga. A red alert is the highest alert available to forecasters. It warns that flying debris poses a danger to life, damage to buildings and homes is likely, roofs could be blown off, power lines brought down and the uprooting of trees is probable. The Channel Islands are likely to one of the areas worst affected by Storm Ciarán, hit by winds of around 100mph. Edited November 1, 20232 yr by martin-w

According to the Met Office 85mph forecast in the morning, in town, coinciding with high tide. That's Marks and Spencer flooded then if the marina overflows. There's some hefty gusts hitting our knackered old sash windows already. Edited November 1, 20232 yr by martin-w
November 1, 20232 yr I love that feeling in a strange way, being on an Island that's now completely cut off. I get the same feeling here high up in the Peak district when the winter snow closes all the roads into my Valley. As long as it doesn't last for too long, a little isolation is good for the soul I think. 787 captain. November 2, 20232 yr Author In Guernsey this morning quite a few trees down, some flooding and some roofs damaged. Jersey got off far worse though, with 40 people evacuated and some people in hospital. Jersey even had a tornado.
