NVMe SSD for flight simulation

Featured Replies

Hi flyers

Not sure if this has been asked before but I am planning on buying a new NVMe SSD for the new FS2024 (and perhaps existing FS2020) as there are some good deals with 'Black Friday'. Appreciate FS2024 is not released yet but I am looking towards the future re: best performance.

This is to complement a PC based on an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D cpu, MSI Mpg X670E Carbon Wifi Atx Motherboard, G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 32GB 6000MHz CL30 DDR5 ram and the to be released Nvidia 4070Ti Super (c. Jan24 hopefully).

I have shortlisted 2 x NVMe SSDs below as they receive very positive reviews and have very high read/write speeds.

Interested to hear your views whether you think the T700 2tb is worth the extra spend vs the T500 2tb?

For example, would there be a large difference in flight sim experience?

If not - the T500 looks good, unless you can suggest another make/model to recommend.

You're not going to see a significant difference between the two SSDs in the sim.

I don't think there will be any noticeable difference between them unless you are using a stopwatch in milliseconds.

i am currently running WD Black 850x 2TB and I am happy with it,  The loading time is much better with FS2020 compared to SSDs and If you still run P3D, you will rarely get ground textures tile pop ups.

My system pretty much has 3 NVMEs are gen4, one for FS2020, one for P3D and addons and one for C:\ drive windows, loading windows is like within 10 seconds from bootup

I currently run 5 NVMEs (Samsung 980 Pro at 2TB) on the new PC. Love them! On the previous PC, I ran it off a regular hard drive. The difference is massive. Although I cannot speak to the two options you are asking about, I can say NVMEs are the way to go. you should be pleased with either of them.

Tom's Hardware has reviews and in reading them, I think any of them he reviewed and approves of are great. And not much difference between them. You won't see a difference in the ones that are faster.

Get a 4TB drive if you only have a slot for one. Two 2TB is ok. One 2 TB drive is not enough. One 4TB drive is cheaper than two 2TB drives.

I'm running this one $160. 4TB. Approved by Tom's Hardware. It's been great!

I paid $197 on Amazon back then, but it's Black Friday now, so $160 now, almost $40 cheaper.
