I don't think for me it is quite useful because when my alt is high enough maybe far away from the airport or city my FPS is good~ but anyway the idea of this addon is still very interesting.

The idea of this add-on is to get good fps at the airport and its vicinity.

I have experienced the same issue on a number of flights in cruise over undulating terrain with LOD values not changing because I am in cruise. I've downloaded the source code and have found the relevant area of code and will attempt to modify it to continuously select LOD based on AGL if in cruise mode, maybe with a bit of hysteresis to stop it continuously toggling if AGL is sitting right on a threshold, and keep the climb/descent logic the same. If it works with out any notable side effects I will request the author to put a checkbox in to disable flight phase detection and just go off AGL.

Maybe you should make clear what Tool you are talking about.

Because the Discussion is really about DynamicLOD, not MSFS_AdaptiveLOD.

In the post you quote of mine I was replying to a post that I quoted which was about DynamicLOD. Sorry, perhaps I should have been a bit clearer.

Uhm well, at the Moment you have written that I did not have any Issues/Pull-Requests regarding about something like that in my Repo 😉

I do not understand what you are saying here. In any case, I have just raised an issue on your github page for DynamicLOD suggesting the changes that I trialed, which I hope you consider implementing.

Makes sense to me. I suspect the rationale for the existing climb/descent/cruise logic is to prevent the LOD values from changing continuously during cruise (causing object "popping"). Hysteresis achieves the same effect, so once you've got that in place, I suspect you would be able to remove the climb/descent logic entirely and simply use hysteresis for all phases of flight. This would simplify the logic and would also eliminate the need to establish a (relatively arbitrary) vertical speed threshold to distinguish between cruise and climb/descent.

In the changes I made, I ended up leaving the climb/descent logic in as it makes sense to me to because on initial climb out and final descent in particular you don't really want too many potential changes in LOD to possibly cause stutters. Also, as I set up the hysteresis to be a percentage of the AGL threshold (I used +-5%), the closer you are to the ground the less effect the hysteresis has and this could cause rapid switching during those critical early and late phases of flight. Eg. at a 20000 ft threshold, 5% is 1000 ft but at 100 ft 5% is 5 ft. I could have used a combination of a fixed and variable hysteresis but I was trying to keep the changes and associated range testing to a minimum and I found that keeping the climb/descent logic in gave the best of both worlds.

Thank you that would be very much appreciated.

Let's just say my suggested changes are not sitting well with the app author, but I am still trying nonetheless.

Unfortunately, negotiations with the author to include a cruise phase LOD update, even with a wide null zone that I can demonstrate has negligible impact on airliner ops, were not successful as the author feels it works around the tool's core principle, as is their prerogative.

Nonetheless, I have a working version, based on version 0.3.2, and if anyone is really interested I can package it up and give them a link to install it and try it out.

I'll send PMs to those requesting it.

For testing, I suggest picking a flight with a cruise phase at MSA over undulating terrain, where you should see the LODs change when they get over 5% over/under their trigger AGL. If you test at high altitude well above your highest AGL trigger you shouldn't see any change in LOD as the author originally intended. One positive side effect of the change is that if you are in cruise and change to another LOD profile, it will automatically set to the correct LOD pair.

something different wrt the dynamicLOD mod, any idea how that window can be hidden? I mean, it autostarts on my end with MSFS but I would like to move it to the right taskbar section with the tiny icons, where e.g. quartz and mobiflight reside like also the fenix app. any idea? MS calls it "minimized start" IIRC

Just uncheck "Open Window on App Start" then close the app window.
