I can reproduce this type of problem if I increase Text size above 100%. Note this is NOT the same as the overall Windows Scale control, since AutoFPS seems to handle that scaling setting nicely.

In the screenshot below I set Text size to 150%, and you can see the text gets too big for the AutoFPS window. I'm using Windows 11 - but in Windows 10 this is probably equivalent to Settings > Display > Make text bigger which I guess will do something similar.

That is the solution. Thank you 🙂

I am pleased to announce the formal release of MSFS2020_AutoFPS version 0.4.1, available for download here. A big thanks to all those who trialed the test versions and provided valuable feedback in shaping the final product.

Changes in 0.4.1:

  • Added optional Auto OLOD functionality where OLOD will adjust based on an altitude band with a base and top level, with OLOD values defined for each of these altitudes and interpolated in between.
  • Completely rewrote TLOD Min priority logic and calculations for TLOD Min on Ground/Landing which provides greater control over and accuracy of TLOD behaviour on final descent compared to v0.4.0.
  • Added app on top feature, allowing the app to overlay your MSFS session if desired while giving MSFS the focus.
  • Changed Target FPS labeling to make it clearer that the target FPS for FG is for when FG is Active.
  • Changed non Use Expert Settings default for Auto pause to be off instead of on.
  • Changed cloud quality recovery to additionally occur if TLOD Min on Ground/Landing is enabled and FPS is at least 15% over the FPS target.
  • Fixed cloud quality reduction logic issue where when active it was not getting reset on re-selection of TLOD Min on Ground/Landing.
  • Changed startup to load PC FPS target by default in lieu of the original FPS target that is no longer used.
  • Added app version recorded at start of log file.

Ladies and gents, just a friendly reminder to not mention AutoFPS in the official forum (moderator action will be taken and posts will be deleted). It’s because it infringes on their community guidelines.

EDIT: And I did mention this without any sarcasm whatsoever. I feel very proud of myself 🙂

A quick note for those who liked and used the sim value logging tool in the 0.4.1 test versions, I will leave up the final the 0.4.1 test version, dated 29Feb240320Z, on github here which includes this functionality and, bar the app title, is otherwise identical to the final release 0.4.1 version. Just be aware that using this extra logging feature can create much larger log files and can potentially impact on MSFS smoothness due to writing to the log more often and the larger size of that file.

Just finished a test run in 0.4.1. SU15 beta 1.37.5.0. Fenix B2 CYYZ Toronto Pearson to KMDW Chicago Midway w/ FSLTL AI traffic. All settings ultra, DX12, 5461x2880, DLSS ultra quality.

Performance was great the whole flight, except for some hard stutters here and there, which I’ve come to expect while simming. I did multitask a fair bit alt-swapping between several programs (Spotify, Chrome, Navigraph Charts).

Below is a screenshot of my settings for the flight:

rOIRyVQ.jpg

TL;DR: the latest version of AutoFPS seems (IMO) to work exactly as advertised, with a complex aircraft, complex scenery, AI traffic as well as very high graphics settings. I couldn’t find any flaws at all. Great work on this @Reset XPDR!

Thanks for this! I’ll probably look into the log file for the next few flights, and when I have a suspicion that things are amiss.

Looking at the log file for the above mentioned flight, TLOD max was reached at 4500ft, OLOD min at 10,000ft. On descent, TLOD was 266 at 2100ft, OLOD 880. At 1000ft AGL TLOD was 100 and OLOD 1000.

Below is an abbreviated section from approach KMDW RNAV Y RWY 22L from 2000ft AGL to 1000ft. As can be seen the TLOD gradually decreases towards my TLOD min at 1000ft. Conversely, the OLOD increase towards the same altitude.

I am very pleased to hear this. I did a 737 flight this morning and just had it running in the background and for the most part it was smooth and kept my FPS nicely centred around my target FPS with a flight ranging from complex departure and landing airports to open ocean at high altitude. That's pretty much how I intended it to work, so I am very happy with that.

The last month has been a whirlwind of activity on this for me so, unless anything comes up badly broken with 0.4.1 that needs urgent fixing, I'm going to take a break from coding and go back to flying aircraft in MSFS like I used to before all of this happened. Well, for a week or so at least. 😄

@Reset XPDR really thanks, it works well in VR, it has its own FPS setting once in MSFS VR mode, maybe would be ok to have that option in the menu too without entering in VR?, a really minor wish without importance, enjoy a lot the deserved "holidays" hahaha.

Thank you so much @Reset XPDR! I will post my settings later, after I've tried out the ones you posted last night to compare. Like @Cpt_Piett, I have found the mod/tool to perform exactly as advertised and within the constraints of the settings one sets (stupid or otherwise)!).

Im running my sim in 4k and my TV is 60Hz native. So Do I set the Target PC FPS to 60? I am also using the DLSS FG mod as well.

My TV is similar with 4K @ 60 and I also use FG in PC mode. It set a FPS cap of 70 in RTSS for MSFS and a target FG Active FPS of 60 and it is very smooth with no tearing.

What is RTSS? So in MSFS2020 AutoFPS app I set it to 70 or 60. I'm confused.

It's this, but cancel that as I don't use RTSS for setting my MSFS FPS cap, I use nVidia Control Panel Manage 3D settings and set an FPS cap of 70 for MSFS. When I say "a target FG Active FPS of 60" I meant in the AutoFPS app.

Got it, but why set FPS to 70 in NVCP? I thought our TV's native refresh rate is 60. Shouldn't it match that?

The cap FPS needs to be higher than the app FPS target for the automation to work correctly. It's all explained in the readme.

Riva Tuner Statistics Server. It an app that can be used to lock FPS leading to increased smoothness. I highly recommend it. Note: use the front edge sync option when locking FPS. The app can also show a very detailed on screen display (FPS, CPU and GPU temp etc). It can be downloaded here.

For questions re: RTSS I’d suggest heading over to the “MSFS performance mega thread” here.

If you choose to lock FPS, please make sure to set AutoFPS target FPS to approximately 5% lower than locked FPS. E.g. I’ve got FPS locked at 60 and set target FPS to 55.
