I just started using it, just as a reminder to set it up, then I leave it in the background / in the taskbar. But I'm 100% fine with you removing it 🙂

You will still be able to do this as I will have the app default to opening the window on startup and if you click X or minimise it will disappear. I may leave in the ability to have the app always open to the system tray instead of a window, but that will be in the config file that you will have to edit yourself as I suspect very few users will want it to start up this hidden way.

That'll be great, thanks. Disappear as in going to system tray? I usually right-click it in systray to minimize.

Btw I'm curious how you were configured for your Bolivia flight? I'm over Peru as we speak. Did you use expert mode with TLOD min ground/landing unchecked? Did you also use auto target fps? I'm getting a bit confused of the effect of the latter when in expert mode. Sorry!

@Reset XPDR,

I use the open window on app start option, but I'm fine if you remove it, especially if the default will be to open on start.

As for the TLOD minimum on ground landing, I do use the option and cycle it while testing, but it could be fine to remove it if there's a better option (not sure I follow the difference between the FPS preference and the TLOD preference).

Thanks for clarifying the intent of the additional 50 fps option. I said earlier that the selection for TLOD Mininum + doesn't persist, but it does actually appear to persist, even though the checkbox isn't checked when reopening the app.

Disappear as in going to the system tray, yes.

These are the exact settings I used in Bolivia in VR this morning with the Kodiak 100:

TLOD Min on Ground/Landing unchecked (soon to be renamed FPS priority) worked magnificently with this latest test build, much better than in all previous test and formal release versions. Try it!

Had a perfect flight in VR at 36fps (capped via HMD) with Motion repro (oculus ASW).

What exactly are your setting so the motion repro works with this software? I got the sister app working, but I'm curious if this one has any advantages, though the exact settings should be pretty important for it to operate well around the fixed FPS of MR without letting it go down to break MR.

To be crystal clear, TLOD Min on Ground/Landing is not going away. It will be the proposed App Priority TLOD radio button selection and will perform exactly like it always has. TLOD Min on Ground/Landing was always a bit of a mouthful to me and saying TLOD priority is much simpler.

Thanks! Just wanted to verify and it turned out I had set it like you. Just wanted to make sure - I'll now go ahead and test it elaborately by landing at remote dirt strips in the Peruvian rainforest!

Previously I would have said 10% lower, but you can probably go much less lower now that FPS tolerance is no longer being used. Maybe even 79 would do it.

I must have missed something... So does it mean AutoFPS should now be working properly in VR with MR on? I.e. if I set target FPS to 39 and lock at 40 will the logic work?

Thanks. FYI, I have found two minor bugs in this latest test release, the second of which will be relevant to your upcoming flight in FPS priority mode, namely:

  • TLOD min + setting not sticking on startup, despite the app being shut down with it checked.
  • FPS priority mode not seeming to default to default TLOD or cloud quality reset when starting your flight on the ground, including when switching graphics modes, but works fine after first take off and for the rest of the flight thereafter.

It probably goes without saying, both these issues will be fixed very soon.

I am saying it could work because of the changes to the target FPS formula no longer having an FPS tolerance to deal with. I don't use MR, nor 1000 hours in a day to test such things even if I did 🤪😄, so I haven't tested this out, but theoretically is should be better. By all means try it and let me know!

It's quite spectacular to have these kind of TLODs when doing scenic flying in remote areas - even on final approach!

Btw I find "pause when MSFS loses focus" very useful as I'm using FG, and often switching between windows. If unchecked, FG will be inactive every time MSFS loses focus, and thus AutoFPS setting TLOD to min. Especially now that TLOD changes are much more gradual - it'll take a while for it to increase from 100 up to 600 😉

I'm glad you really liked it. I am actually a bit embarrassed about how bad my previously formula was for TLOD adjustment, with such big steps and a large dead zone, as I have previously written far more complex autopilot code involving acceleration behaviour and this should have been a doddle for me to code right in the first place. Oh well, let's just say I left the best bits 'til last! 😁

And the pause feature you speak of, I hadn't been using it in VR or PC mode as it isn't really necessary, but when recently trying FG again I found it essential for stopping the app hunting TLOD (not wabbits 😄) . Don't worry, despite hacking and slashing the UI of late, I have no plans to take out the pause option.

Happy to hear that! I'm getting quite excited about the new FPS priority feature - at least that's what I think you called it. In the meantime, I'm havin' the time of my life with the current settings.

Oh - and I'm afraid the deflector shield frame time variance with these settings - is basically... negligible. Something I think at least one fellow FTV aficionado will surely appreciate. Or am I wrong @RJC68😁

Just look at the frame time graph at the bottom - the line is almost flat! Which is very very good in this case. But not so good in an emergency room setting.

My test cases and base scenarios that I want to plan for involve large metropolitan areas, large airports and lots of traffic.

With this latest version, I have settled on a set of settings that allow me to take off from KJFK with traffic at JFK as well as LGA (180+ planes) with amazing graphics settings (there's a long other thread about that one!) with enough frames that it's relatively smooth. Not perfect, but there's a balance. The same settings allow me to cruise over to Manhattan at low altitude (1000-2000 ft AGL) and then descend to 500-1000 ft AGL when over the island. I can then return to KJFK and land with a good balance of settings as well.

Here I need to note that a message I wrote when I first tried this mod many pages ago, regarding stutters seen over Manhattan, continues to be true. At the time, we thought it had to to with the OLOD settings and a large shift in LODs over a small amount of altitude. This turns out not to be true. The problem is that any time there is a TLOD change while I'm at low altitude over the island, there's a stutter. I tried increasing the sensitivity (in order to reduce the number of TLOD jumps), but that didn't seem to work. I settled on the settings below because they target my TLOD min at around the right altitude. I found that I can actually have a higher TLOD and still be fine, but it's important that it not shift while I'm doing lazy circles around the buildings. The problem is that I have plenty of FPS headroom, but every TLOD change causes a stutter. Hence, I cannot have anything other than TLOD priority as my setting (TLOD Min on Ground/Landing):
