How to get the best image quality using DLDSR+DLSS

Recommended Posts

Thanks for your quick response, just the direction pointer I needed in this case so highly appreciated. rBar settings is irrelevant for my 2080Ti so I guess only changes that I have to make the 3 top ones?

4. How to enable DLSS ultra quality in MSFS?

In MSFS graphics settings under DLSS, it's possible to choose from several alternatives, ranging from ultra performance to quality. The latter option downscales the image to 0.67x the rendered resolution. However, when using the latest DLSS version, another alternative can be chosen: ultra quality, which only downscales to 0.80x.

After following these steps with nvidia Inspector, running at 5461x2880, and updating the dlssg dll. , I still only have the "Quality" setting in MSFS.  Is this correct, or should I be seeing an option for "Ultra Quality" in the user interface?

The goal is to get the ultra quality option. I’d recheck DLSS versions using GPU-Z just to be sure. Also you might want to browse through the comment section of the videos below. I’ve done that before when struggling to get ultra quality to work, and the most common issue that people had was that they had not updated DLSS correctly.

Recently I’ve come to suspect that both FG and non-FG DLSS .dll’s must be installed in order for ultra quality to appear - even when always using FS, like I do.

Ah ha.  I had just the FG dlss updated, but NOT the non-FG one.  So I updated the non-FG dlss file (using the DLSS Swapper app) and it worked!   This is critically important information.

Almost as important as coming out of light speed too close to the system.  And we know what happens then.

Using DLSS in Ultra Quality mode does seem to look better than TAA.  On my 32" 4K monitor the horizontal lines look better.  I notice no loss in performance so far.

Glad you got it working eventually!

Also, you helped confirm my suspicions re: the need to use nonFG .dll in order for ultra quality to work. I’ll humbly ask a mod to help me edit the original post so that no one else falls into this unfortunate trap.

And yes, that incident with Admiral Ozzel. Yes I think I vaguely remember. That was indeed… most unfortunate

Looks like, after applying all the tips here, I got MSFS to be the closest to what I want in a sim. How can I back these settings up?

For reference, in FSX I simply saved a copy of FSX.cfg (and maybe exported my NCP/NPI settings) and that was all.

For DLSS Ultra Quality you need nVIDIA Profile Inspector, because the Control Panel does not offer this setting. But does the novel nVIDIA App offer it? Anyone knows this?

Inspector is needed as the settings we need to change are not in control panel The new Nvidia app doesn't offer extra DLSS settings either. But it does introduce some new features, like RTX HDR, RTX Dynamic Vibrance, RTX super resolution and RTX HDR.

Glad to hear and good question! As the settings in Inpector contains all the settings in NCP, you can just export the global profile (same as saving all the settings in a backup profile). This is very useful when settings get cleared after a driver update. Then used use "import profile", and all settings will be restored.

I having trouble understanding this video. It's changing a few settings by a tenth or a hundredth? And this is supposed to be a noticeable difference in smoothness or sharpness of the sim when there are so many other variables?   I can't believe anyone is that discerning and you can choose any of the choices which fit in the middle of the settings.
what am I missing?

If you're referring to the two videos I shared a few posts up, DLSS ultra quality increases the image quality significantly (bringing it on par with TAA) without any performance loss. As per my OP.

That you are not as discerning? Most of these things are IMHO highly based on individual perceptions.

Ahh, but the video changes the settings on 4 different quality settings, not just ultra and you're supposed to choose the one you can work with.. ok, on my 34 inch monitor I have guess I'm not that discerning. You're right, it's individual perceptions. Using FG, I choose the highest quality anyway.

You're right, I forgot he was changing between 4 settings, it's been a few weeks since I saw the video. And I think you're right about monitor ZiZe* as well.

*can't use the letter Z when GeForce overlay is active as it will start a video capture instead of typing the letter. I have to get it from google, lol 😅

The second video changes the four settings, but the first one only ultra. I guess in VR these changes may be more important. I'll have to try VR Zome day...hehe

Haha I see what you did there! Wow, getting jealous of your Z's though. Just tried to change the key shortcut and GeForce crashed lol. I'm in the middle of a "perfect storm" situation here as everything seems to go wrong at once...

And btw I tried VR at a very early stage - Oculus Rift I believe. It wasn't for me, too awkward with the thing on my face, felt like a creature from Star Wars...
