How to get the best image quality using DLDSR+DLSS

Not my best day, lol! Now the new nvidia app won't let me change keybinds at all. So I guess I'm stuck without that letter...

And this just happened 🤣

I was trying to start the flight from 5000ft, must have mis-clicked lol. And of course now I desperately want to try to take off from a water runway with the 787 😆

  • One benefit of my recent 4090 purchase is that I don't have to keep doing this tweaking anymore, I run my card at 3440x1440 FG TAA and render scale at 130 and the card eats everything I throw at it.

  • This could very well be the case. Anyhow, it's good to have so many options to choose from, but it can also get unnecessarily confusing and complicated. Besides, TAA is quite old now, whereas DLSS is

  • Just be aware that this approach also increases the load on VRAM quiet considerably when using 1.78 or even 2.25 times the native resolution. Might be fine for 4090 users, all others might check that

is DLDSR somewhat limited to specific Resolutions? because with my samsung 49" i have 5120x1440p and i cannot get DLDSR to show a higher value. also in the Nvidia Control Panel i cannot find a correct value 😞

@Bam2000 yes that’s correct. The two DLDSR resolutions in NCP are 1.78x and 2.25x your native resolution.

The new Nvidia app doesn't offer extra DLSS settings either. But it does introduce some new features, like RTX HDR, RTX Dynamic Vibrance, RTX super resolution and RTX HDR.

I see that I mentioned RTX HDR twice here... Can’t think of the 4th feature, perhaps there isn’t one. Btw they’re not relevant for me as RTX HDR basically mimics HDR on a non HDR monitor. And the two other is disabled with DLDSR. Dynamic Vibrance, can’t remember but I think it was unnecessary (for me) like the other two.

I’ve gotten one benefit from the beta nVidia app though: much higher video capture quality! But the overlay is clunky and sometimes decides to throw a tantrum or two. It’s beta though…

A bit OT but would I see more impact on the visuals if I bought a 4k monitor? I am referring to the sharpness of the gauges mostly.

I’m sure opinions on this will vary wildly as with all things hardware. I’d say it was a rather big difference going from 1440p to 4K. Especially cockpit detail which is usually most important to us simmers. Also I think HDR is a huge improvement, whenever I turn it off I feel like everything has gone bland and flat. And of course g-sync is a game-changer. I notice almost immediately the tearing when it’s off. Which is quite often nowadays as I’m heavily testing AutoFPS and has the window on top of MSFS, causing g-sync to go inop.

Thanks Captain! Looks like I need to find a good 4k monitor.

Oooh, that looks like a nice one! With your rig I’d say it could handle higher than 4K (DLDSR). Nice specs! And not to mention size.

Thanks! It does look pretty good. For that price it better! I am getting a racing/sim cockpit in a month or so and this would probably work pretty well with that. Just need to check dimensions.

I did a test using 5120x2880 (DSR Factors) and was still getting 50-60fps. This equates to 14.75m pixels vs 16.6m with the Odyssey Neo G9, so I should be good.

Nvidia just released a new driver: 551.85. Not any significant changes, but I usually update anyway. After clearing the cache in safe mode. I've stopped doing the DDU-uninstall as I don't think I really need to. Besides, it's a bit of a hassle.

Fixed Gaming Bugs

  • Advanced Optimus: Notebook may not wake up from sleep when in NVIDIA GPU only display mode [4454524]
  • Hitman 3: Stutter observed in some Advanced Optimus notebooks [4443236]

Fixed General Bugs

  • RTX HDR uses saturation and tone curve that matches Gamma 2.0 instead of 2.2 [4514298]
  • RTX Digital Vibrance incorrectly detects Paint.net app as a supported app [4539617]

@Cpt_Piett  Maybe not for the faint of heart but have you tried TinyNvidia ?   https://github.com/ElPumpo/TinyNvidiaUpdateChecker

This will search for Nvida driver updates, debloat them and then install. I've been using it for the latest couple of driver updates.

@mobeans10 never heard of it before, but sounds like it's less hassle-free than DDU. I haven't updated the driver yet, so when I do, I'll give it a try.

Make sure you have a winzip/winrar extractor installed else it won't be able to debloat and will just install the driver regularly. You will get messages in a command window that will alert you to what's going on. In addition make sure of the following

1. Open %localappdata%\Hawaii_Beach\TinyNvidiaUpdateChecker\app.config with your text editor of choice

2. Set the value of Minimal install to true

3. Save your changes
