Any cure for DLSS/DLAA anomoly?

DSR and DLSS looks really good but hurts performance too badly on my rig.  TAA performance is similar so I stick with DLSS quality setting.

I wrote a very lengthy guide on the benefits of DLSS+(DL)DSR a while back. Since then I’ve gone back to native 4K as 5144x2880 caused my GPU to go into overdrive.

Cockpit display ghosting is beyond annoying to me and basically the only reason I'm not using it.

Sure, that was the reason I never used DLSS etc but having given it some time, I find the much sharper ground textures and virtually no shimmering textures around airports, is a bonus which, for me, outweighs the instrument smearing. Having said that, I am now experiencing freezes!! The last three flights, in fact, the only flights I have done with DLSS/DLAA + DX12 have each ended with a freeze, where nothing in the VC is operational. It seems my experience with this new found setting is going to be short lived. Can anyone tell me whether these freezes are associated with DX12 or the DLSS settings and if others are reporting the same?

I use DLSS/DLAA with DX12 and have no freezes.

Razor sharp everything, no shimmering, no artifacts, gauges/text fabulous, no ghosting, no freezes, no melts...:  HAGS on, DX12, TAA, all Ultra,GFE Detail Filter and most importantly:  Render Scale 160 on a 3440x1440 display.  Rocky:  try this if you haven't you have the VRAM for it.

GeForce Experience filters, one of which is called Detail.  Also handily addresses dark cockpit as well.

This is DLSS/DLAA...

Then I've got old/tired eyes too! I did a similar comparison a while back and came to the same conclusion as you.

I'll be as bold as to suggest some general suggestions (based on this and other recent threads):

  • TAA if that gives the best image quality (in the eyes of the beholder) - with or without increasing the render scaling
  • DLSS+DLAA (no downscaling involved) - if that gives the best image quality
  • DLSS + any of the downscaling options (performance, quality etc) if the extra performance benefit is needed

Maybe it's not visible in a screenshot but a video?

I can't tell a difference when sitting still either. But TAA looks much better to me in motion. Neither are great though. There are a lot of people who don't like temporal AA cus it's really not great for image clarity - there is a lot of blurriness and ghosting compared to the good old days of MSAA.

I should add that the DLSS+DLAA option looks much better than DLAA only option. I'm not really sure what the difference is here technically, but they clearly work differently. Actually I just realised you said DLSS/DLAA, so I guess you're using DLSS+DLAA. In which case I agree, they aren't much different. Imo DLSS+DLAA works better than TAA, whereas DLAA only does not look better than TAA. For those confused, under Anti-Aliasing options you can select either TAA, DLAA, or DLSS. If you choose DLSS you can then select Performance, Balanced, Quality, or DLAA in the field below.

Ok, I take that back. TAA is still better than DLSS/DLAA. It's noticeable in a glass cockpit.
