MSFS Settings Guide

Phew, happy to hear that! I was a bit worried for a while…

Just flew Sydney to Brisbane, all same addons apart from PMDG 738 instead of Horizon 789, probably the smoothest flight I've ever had, no trace of the issues I had earlier on the long haul.

Just have to chalk it up to one of those FS anomolies I guess?

Apologies everyone! It seems a bug occurred during the video production process, when making the settings video. Hence the display is weird during the section where I talk about graphics settings

  • Thanks for updating your settings guidance. I will definitely give this close scrutiny as you have proven to be a consistently sound and thorough expert on MSFS settings and system enhancements. Well

I guess so. MSFS tends to throw inexplicable tantrums from time to time 🤷🏻‍♂️

I also watched my video, hoping that it was not too incoherent. And it got me thinking if it’s necessary to move the Official folder before doing a re-install. I’m tempted to test what happens if it’s not done, which requires a backup. As I don’t want to risk having to re-download 356GB…

Perhaps 7-zip has finished compressing those 356GB, I’ll go check.

Let me know how it works out.

I will. Should be safe now that I have a backup.

Btw I used 7-zip to compress the Official folder from 356 to 175GB. Very useful to have a backup in case something goes wrong. Which it has done for me in the past:

Advice:

Never, ever delete anything from the Official / OneStore folder. Instead, use content manager to uninstall, as I mentioned in the video.

Got it. Will pin this to my MSFS help files.

I reinstalled MSFS without remove Official folder (I have backup, just in case) and everything was fine. Just want to add, that make backup of "exe.xml" is good idea also.

So perhaps the vital part of a quick reinstallation is having a custom install location. Didn’t think about the exe.xml, had to reinstall a few apps as I don’t know how to edit it.

BTW, after playing around with DLSS (DLAA, DLDSR etc.), the biggest "showstopper" for my build is still the 16GB VRAM. Bummer, never thought about this, but using 1440p as output resolution, I easily fill my VRAM using DLDSR with the 2.25x factor, have to test the 1.75 factor.

If I run 2.25x the 4090 is maxed out all the time, 100%. But yeah, should be an increase in VRAM as well. Native is 4K so I think 1.75 is around 5K and 2.25 6K.

The whole thing is also interesting for me, because I am on the brick of upgrading to a 32" 4K monitor...
