Apologies everyone! It seems a bug occurred during the video production process, when making the settings video. Hence the display is weird during the section where I talk about graphics settings

  • Thanks for updating your settings guidance. I will definitely give this close scrutiny as you have proven to be a consistently sound and thorough expert on MSFS settings and system enhancements. Well

Thank you for a concise and well thought out guide. Appreciate your contributions.. Thank you.

@Cpt_Piett shouldn’t I say admiral? Maybe you have been demoted for optimizing the software of The Executer one to many times?😂

However, many thanks for your very helpful tutorials ✈️!

Haha, I was surely demoted at some stage, just don’t know when to stop 😅

But actually the tweaking habits have settled down a bit lately, and I’m quite happy with the sim. Occasionally I run into some performance issues. Like the other day sightseeing around Auckland in the Tomahawk. Strange as I had been able to fly over Macau, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo and Sydney - with barely any stutters.

Me too. I find the stutters are sometimes just so random.

I now also tried 1.78x DLDSR and sadly also this results in an almost full VRAM e.g. on EHAM using AIG traffic at 80%. Bummer, looks like those 16GB VRAM of my 4080 are indeed not enough for 4K.

Apologies everyone!

It seems a bug occurred during the video production process, when making the settings video. Hence the display is weird during the section where I talk about graphics settings. I'm sorry I didn't discover this earlier! Luckily, someone made a comment on YouTube.

To compensate for this, I made a 36 min video exclusively covering the graphics settings:

I guess the most important thing in this video is understanding which settings affect mostly the CPU vs the settings that mostly affect the GPU. Also, I try to explain how to determine if the sim is CPU vs GPU-limited.

I've made a few videos demonstrating how the sim looks at different TLOD and OLOD levels - links below. I also made a short video comparing DLSS and TAA.

The impact of TLOD on terrain rendering distance and mesh resolution: https://youtu.be/S-BhoewhFhY?si=bhXW11QOURHADma_

The impact of TLOD on how photogrammetry buildings and objects are rendered: https://youtu.be/Mk_vbuIK21I?si=84HG55jJ1ayURONt

How OLOD affects airport objects (but apparently not much else): https://youtu.be/ty_v64lbl4Y?si=JePqxSNhoHLlxGQa

A short video comparing DLSS and TAA: https://youtu.be/FnxY63fNfmI

More on DLDSR here (I don't use this at the moment):

DLSS resolutions (PDF): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VHRzfi_Gwa-F7he6eSdSybi22i8pfN1R/view?usp=sharing

Short PDF on DLSS, DLAA and DLDSR: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1St0lziaqlOQ3IDIos7avXp-JWGAWBYe5/view?usp=sharing

I did mention AutoFPS in the video (dynamically changes TLOD and OLOD) - highly recommended. Latest version here: https://github.com/ResetXPDR/MSFS2020_AutoFPS/releases/tag/v0.4.2.10
