Looks promising but I think there may be a bug in the ointment.  Anyone know for sure if you need the steam version of msfs to run the Pimax?  Or will it work just fine with the stand-alone version?

Thanks,

Works the same regardless of Steam or MS Store version.

Thanks, what is your source.  I saw some information where people with the store version were having trouble and VR Flight Sim guy and Sebastion Ank (name may not be exactly correct here) kept referring to the steam version of msfs.  Just want to make sure before I decide to do anything.  I'm retired now and I no longer have the cash to throw around 😉

I own both the Steam and the MS store version, they are identical (except for install/packaging). I've used the MS store version with about every single OpenXR implementation in existence.

Heck, I have written the Pimax OpenXR support (PimaxXR) using the MS store version. That should be good enough source for you 😛

OK, thank you all.  Went ahead and pulled the trigger.  Now for the wait.

So, since I have some knowledgeable folks in here, when the Pimax arrives, should I uninstall WMR and all the open XR stuff before installing the Pimax software.  Haven't seen any info yet on how to get started and I don't want to gum up the works with some old WMR settings.

Another hands on review, this one by Mark. He says he likes the new Crystal Light better than his old Pimax Crystal !

He says the sweet spot was even wider, and it weighed less and was more comfortable than his old Pimax Crystal. Near the end he is absolutely raving about how good it is and points out even with the resolution turned down to match the Reverb G2,  the image is so much better than the G2. And with a better GPU you don't have to turn the resolution down like that.

At 4:45 MRTV says the new Crystal Light somehow puts out a better image than his old Pimax Crystal.

Another glowing review.  I'd love to get a Pimax Crystal Light, but with it weighing 920g (at 3:43) it's a no-go for me.  My G2 weighs 550g and it's about as heavy as I can tolerate with my compromised neck.  One thing telling about Pimax: they don't directly publish the weight specs of their HMDs.  I guess it's like the old joke "if you have to ask, it's too much".

is it possible to removed the headband off the crystal or crystal light? it would be interesting to know the weight of just the front unit.

if that's about 500g alone, i'd find the entire headset an acceptable weight if the rest is distributed across the headband

it's also interesting to hear a couple of remarks (simhanger and reddit) about the sweet spot being noticeably larger on the light version than on the original??
