MSFS cannot see the headset, even though it's up and working. The whole Pimax interface and setup is way more complicated and confusing than the HP Reverb Gs and Quest 2. I have no clue what's wrong.

Not sure if it is related but with my Crystal I had to reseat USB connectors every time I used it before it would recognize the headset. Not once would it work without doing that for some reason. I was using two monitors, one driven by main graphics card and one with onboard graphics.

Thank you, ZoblebV8! That was my whole problem! I had to move some things around, but now I have the desktop with its back facing me where I can poke the USB plugs around easy enough to try that. Like you said, if I change the position of the plug to a new port, right before bootup, then MSFS works every time in VR ! I

I would say the image compared to G2 is spectacular ! Not just the colors and blacks, but the far distance is really clear. And so is the peripheral vision at the edges. Somehow leaning in to see the glass screen gps 1000 is much easier. And it's clearer for sure. (And I'm using DLSS not TAA which would make it clearer, I suppose).

I did not need the controllers to get it setup with MSFS, but there were things in the setup that I could not change. But it didn't matter.

BTW, There is a thing called Pimax XR Control Center (also called Pimax XR Runtime) where you can set the boundaries the "room" by entering numbers with keyboard and mouse. I used 2 meters in both the bottom boxes. Works great and I don't have to fuss drawing lines on the floor with controller beams (which I don't have). I'm never going to move 6 feet (2 meters forward or back so the boundary doesn't need to be changed for sitting at a desk.

Camper biggly happy now !

You can use the volume buttons to paint room boundaries.

how about fps with TAA? you using its native max resolution 2.880 each eye?

how are comfort + heat compared to HP G2 ?

what are you going to do with your G2 now that everybody knows WMR will not be supported after Win H24

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, HP Reverb G2 VR headset @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Aeronautical Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

I'm using it native max resolution. 4070 5800X3D . Less heat better comfort than G2 (but only by a little bit). The halo strap with click tightening / loosening is great.

I sold my G2 in early June and when it sold (eBay) I bought this on June 4. It arrived July 11. UPS shipped. (UPS gave a tracking headsup the day before it arrived by email).

I won't be using max resolution however, but it works OK, but fps aren't a much as with the G2. But strangely, jerks, jitters, stutters are way less with this headset than the G2.

I'm using DLLS Quality and 200 both LODS and preset render on Ultra for everything. And getting in the middle 20s in dense scenery. I'll just crank down the settings and get up to about 40 or so, no problem. Or, I could reduce the full resolution of the headset and keep the high MSFS settings. I only tested this about an hour so far.

I never use TAA in 2D or 3D. It kills my frame rates.

Or I can use XR toolkit tricks to increase the fps. I have not tuned this headset yet, like this guy did.

In the app, Pimax Play (not Pimax Control Center) he is showing that app for Crystal, not the Crystal Light. So there's no choice for "lighthouse" and so forth. But is similar.

that's what we are currently debating over in the other 2D thread. as long as you are using analog instruments thats fine. with glass cockpits I found DLSS is never as sharp as TAA.

how much did you sell your G2 for? I am surprised people would still buy them.but good for you, that made the Crystal pretty affordable.

do you use prescription lenses with your VR headsets?

comparison re. fixed vs. dynamic foveated rendering with the previous Pimax Crystal. does the Crystal Light support both modes too?

"This is 4 FPS (10%) more vs. Foveated Rendering off. Not revolutionary but nice."

I don't use prescription lenses in VR. I sold the G2 for $225 (it sold in 2 minutes, always a sign that I should of asked more).

No eye-tracking. It can do quadwiews through some trickery in DCS.

And just to answer your other question, I would recommend the Local-dimming version. It works fairly well. It's not a Oled so there is subtle kind of haze from the backlighting that's visible at night, in really dark areas of sim.

At 8:18 he says he would be very very happy if upgrading his old G2 or Quest 2 to this crystal light.

Last night I was getting 20-22 fps at Orlando to Plant city (Orlando is bespoke Asobo).

So now today I set all my MSFS settings to the level he uses for a 4090 (I only have a 4070) (8:51 to 9:12) and am getting 26-28 frames in the same flight (26 at the bespoke Orlando airport, 28 in the air) (But this is at 1000 feet so lots of scenery). This is with full Pimax resolution and no down scaling or foveated rendering or reprojection.

9:17 he's using exact settings as in my test and getting 58 fps as is displayed in the video. But he has a 4090 and he is way up high in the air where fps rises. He says he can get 35 fps in heavy scenery and traffic on anywhere in the sim.

So, I slewed myself way up high over 10,000 fet, and get 31, not much more than 28 fps at 1000 feet.

On 2D or VR if at 22 to 30 there should be some little almost micro pauses or minor issues, but I get none of those with this headset, like I did with the G2 and Quest 2. It's just smooth. And the colors are great, fantastic!

you still have room to improve your GPU as well as your CPU, after you have also sold them on ebay that is. Nvidia 5090 and AMD Ryzen 9000. 😄

Imagine all this combined with MSFS 2024, I would say this is 80% of the real world experience.

I tried XR toolkit (not a Pimax app) to turn on foveated rendering like in the video. It only gained me about  1 fps. Not worth it. But I've been doing other things besides flying today, not spent much time in the sim.
