Not having time to fly but my notes say for full resolution, and at and just leaving an Asobo bespoke airport:

DLSS QUALITY 24

DLSS BALANCED 28

DLSS PERFORMANCE 34

DLSS ULTRA PERFORMANCE 43 fps

Taking the colors and image into consideration I would rather fly this headset at ultra performance than any setting in the HP G2.

But G2 did give better fps than this crystal light, when both were set to full resolution.

Also I have to turn on a desk lamp with the crystal light to keep the tracking from occasionally messing up. No problem in a room that's a little bit lit.

I have 11 controllers as listed in my sig. Windows shuts down some usb ports to save power. I went into Control Panel and found about a dozen of the 40 or so listings were allowing windows to shut down usb ports, hubs, human interface devices. I unchecked the "allow" boxes in all of them (took about 15 minutes) and now this headset turns on when I tell MSFS to switch to VR. There's no more problems with VR not working.

I went from "will send this back" to "only if you pry it out of my dead hands"

Im excited about this thread as just sold my G2 (in NZ for 252NZD) and will put that toward the Pimax Light which here will cost me $1700 NZD

Finding this very educational... i was also afflicted by the dreaded errors over last few weeks so uninstalled the sim and now waiting for November for the next iteration...

Great thread!

Last night I was getting 20-22 fps at Orlando to Plant city (Orlando is bespoke Asobo).

So now today I set all my MSFS settings to the level he uses for a 4090

I just flew your route with his setting and was averaging was between 45-55 fps. I am using a 4080 super. His XR toolkit setting was making my gpu crash for some reason.

I have to apologize to you all, everything I said about color quality and stability (the trees never shimmer, if you look out the left window straight down, the scenery does not have tiny jumps, it is smooth), all that is true.

But the fps that I reported is wrong. It was to low. I'm getting better fps tonight. I instantly got a boost by just rebooting my computer (system restart). It had been many hours since I did that.

High End DLSS and render preset ULTRA I'm getting between 27 and 33 flying down low at 500 to 1000 feet Orlando to Platt. The average is about 29 or 30.

Let's say I turn my head swiftly, if the headset is firmly mounted there is no lag or micro stutters.

Here is my settings (highest resolution the Crystal Light can give, and no foveated rendering to narrow the sweetspot).

All I can do is envy the 4080 Supers! Mine can't do those numbers.

------------------------

By the way the Pimax XR Runtime: if you click the top arrow to swap from Pimax XR to Steam VR runtime, and then click on a certain option in Steam, then Steam will show you the actual resolution pixels in numbers, not just Minimum, Balanced, and Maximum like Pimax Play (the dark black app above).

I don't have Pimax controllers, I don't need them at all for MSFS2020.

The view is more of a panoramic view that does not look narrower than a normal 16:9 monitor view. The G2 seemed to be narrower than 16:9.

It's also sharper out on the edges, inviting you to move your eyes to the edges instead of having to move your head in that direction for a clearer view.

Here's a link:

The Light is said to have the same FOV as the regular Crystal in YT reviews by users.

As always the Meta Quest 3 is a great headset and is cheaper. Colors not as great, screen not as great, but the lenses are superb in the Q3. I don't think the Q3 can give the performance by cable or by wifi compared to any display port headset. Ever review on YT is saying that. (I never owned a Q3, so I don't know).

I can swear the Light has a very much better image than the HP G2. I saw that 5 seconds after turning in on in MSFS. WOW!

If you have kids, the Q3 has library of hundreds of games other headsets can't play. No wires and the Inter pupil width goes down to 54. It goes down to 58 on the Crystal Light and pre teenagers can therefore get a good 3D effect and much less eye strain with the Q3.

Normal adult male is 65. the light goes from 58.0 to 75.0. It moves one tenth increments and shows you the number as the lesnses moves. 75.0 and then 74.9 and then 74.8 and so forth. So a tenth of a millimeter accuracy to your eyes.

It's sad to not be able to buy one here in Brazil.

I'll need to schedule a trip to USA just for this.

Brazil and Argentina get the absolute shaft with electronics import inflation $$$.

This is a crackingly helpful rundown, @Fielder .  Balanced, detailed, non-partisan and informative - one of the best I've ever come across.  Many thanks for the time you are putting into this.

I have a Quest 3 and with a 4090 you get a decent image, but it does take more than its fair share of GPU power to overcome the compression losses.  I tried a full-fat Crystal a while back but my eyes are too far back to get a decent FOV.  I'd love to know if the light version is any better in this respect, i.e., you can get your eyes closer to the lenses.

How is the inbuilt speakers compared with the G2 ones?

@Fielder wondering the same!

Also, it seems that you're saying at max clarity the CL has lower fps but much higher image clarity than the G2?  I sometimes fly VR but the clarity in DLSS just isn't wonderful with my G2.
