Posting another tip I mentioned in another thread once you've done all the above and the display seems slow when turning your head:

Try these setting in your CL software (PimaxXR runtime):

Room Lighting Frequency - 50hz

Refresh Rate - 72hz

Render Quality - Customize 0.90

Fixed Foveated Rendering - Balanced

Check Smart Smoothing

🤔

If this doesn't work try testing QVC.  Download and install 'QuadViews Companion' and choose 'Give me FPS' then link QuadViews in the PimaxXR runtime so the settings work in the headset.

I almost sent the CL back as well until I found the right tips and/or trial and error dialing it in. It took me a week to become satisfied.  Hopefully with what I provided here it will take you a couple hours and you'll be happy.🙂

Another tip:

Shut off 'Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling' in Windows

I had an issue where the display would jump out of the cockpit when flying through clouds.  Found this jewel on Pimax's discord now the headset is stable about 98% of the time under various conditions in MSFS (this was my last nagging issue since I got the headset).☺️

Edit: I chose the heaviest load I could come up with on the video card (heaviest cloud conditions with the most performance eating add-on scenery I could find that I'll never use otherwise) and was able to get the problem to reoccur. That's pretty good to me, I'll take it.😉

Another thing to remember is proper IPD setting for your specific eye separation on your face.  A wrong setting in the headset can kill your eyes causing headaches, vertigo, and blurriness if not set correctly.  There are apps out there to get a decent measurement on this and set the headset accordingly.

Make sure you're wearing the headset correctly. Usually if IPD isn't the issue it's wearing of the headset.  I had my son try it and had to adjust it back to me after he put it on.  What I found was I didn't have the headset pulled down enough before in front of my face.  This time around I loosened the top strap a bit (already had the back of my head adjusted with the padding hitting my lower neck) allowing for the headset to sit somewhat lower over my eyes (seeing more top of the lenses than before). The back adjusted to keep if off my nose and the look outside was better than before.  This is hard to explain here but I now use my Phenom by Cockspur as a marker.  If I can hold my head forward and look down at the Garmin without it being blurry (not moving my head when I look) I'm wearing the headset correctly.  Not sure if this is making since but it's trial and error.  The distance view is where this headset really shines.😉

Hi Dillon,

Thanks for the replies - I'm not sure if its a combination of high expectations or a slightly faulty headset. I can get the guages inside the aircraft to be pretty clear, and the immersion is amazing, but I find the overall experience to be lacking. The scenery outside the cockpit just doesn't do it for me.

To each their own I guess. Between the issue of eye strain and the blurry scenery etc Ive decided to just send it back to Pimax for a refund. I'll pickup the Super when/if they become available and try again 🙂

Did you adjust the IPD setting on the headset?  The headset if far from blurry unless you don't have the headset pulled down enough or the IPD settings is off for the separation of your eyes.

Ive found this to be odd... i check my IPD (61.7) adjust it as close as i can in the headset - only to find it has readjusted itself next session!

Its happened a couple times...ive found that when adjusting the IPD using the roller, sometimes the IPD meter appears on screen, other times not at all! Is there a way to bring it up when adjusting the IPD? Seems pretty random... hmmmm

That's interesting, unless you have eye tracking included in your headset it's a manual setting with the dial on the side of the headset.  It should never change unless you change it and/or someone's been playing around with your headset... I'll check mine.

EDIT:  Mine hasn't changed, still at 63.5.

Adding to the above I was trying to save you the hassle instead of jumping the gun returning an $800+ purchase.😔  There's really nothing better out there at this price point on the market but it's not plug-in-play.  You have to adjust your eye settings, figure out what works best for your computer, and wear the dang thing correctly.

So for everyone else give the headset a week to dial it in (two weekends).  Don't rush to judgment. This is budding technology where as within another couple of years will be more mainstream.  It would be akin to returning a flat screen monitor in favor of an old tube monitor when flat screens weren't in wide spread use yet.  Another one returning a VHS player in favor of a BETA player if any of you can remember that (direct comparison would be a Q3 over a CL).  Again, give things a reasonable chance first before you rush to judgement unless you actually have faulty equipment.😐

My interest in all this is I want Pimax to succeed, period.🫤  We were almost dead in the water at this price point in our quest to replace the Reverb G2 (thank you MS for killing WMR🤨).  All other options are either inferior or too expensive.  The Q3 with that wireless solution that loses connection in the middle of a flight and/or runs out of battery life all too often is a no go for me.  Plus it looks slightly better than the Reverb G2 in MSFS.  It amazes me people would prefer this option because for the price you're not getting anything that good for MSFS (now that the CL is out).  Sony in all reports looks worse than the G2 and just like the Q3 is being jimmy rigged for PC use.  These were built mainly for headset/console games that you can download in the headset or use on a PS console. Again, basically their being jimmy rigged for PC/Flight Simulation.  The only dedicated VR headset that's not over $1000 is the CL. That's why I hope they succeed, and other manufactures follow suite with a real PC VR headset solution.  This won't happen if we expect perfection right out the box without taking time to configure it/set if up properly.😶

The software is just buggy, ive had the same issues. It can't physically move on its own, there are no motors.

Ah indeed! Have been reading some other threads which suggested that i use the roller and manually close or open the lenses (while not on my head obviously) to make sure the lenses weren't stuck or tight... tried this a few times and bingo! Maybe on some of the new sets the lenses are a bit 'tight' so to speak... they adjust easily now...so will wait for the updated software (not seen it my end either Dillon, unless they are referring to the Beta software?)

I have no idea what my IPD is. I tried using some free eye measuring apps, but the results are inconsistent.

Try, 'PDCheck AR'.  I have my headset set with the near reading in this software (63.5).

I tried two different ones today, eyeMeasure and PDcheck. EM said 55-57 (wrong), and PD said 60-62. Now the IPD meter has bugged out completely, it seems to be stuck at 64 and will only go up a few decimal points 🤷‍♂️.

Hi Dillon - I want Pimax to exceed as well, and will probably pickup the Super once (if) it arrives. I played around with my IPD and tested pretty much every setting I could. I tried multiple apps and measuring the IPD manually all of which gave the same score - Thats what I ended up using in the Pimax without a real change in behavior.

PImax indicated likely faulty lenses and offered to sent a replacement or refund. I elected a refund based on the significant number of negative reviews I've seen post purchase about QC issues.

I'll give them another go in 6 months when the Super is out and hopefully their QC is better.

Thanks for your support and suggestions tho - much appreciated.
