New Nvidia Driver 560.81

Featured Replies

Anyone tried this one yet? Nothing specific for MSFS but a few bug fixes that may be helpful:

This has been moved out of the main forum by the mods so probably won't get any replies.  It was posted in the main forum for good reasn so any of us trying the new driver could discuss their experiences.

Hardly anyone looks at the hardware forum.

There have been plenty of posts in the main forum discussing MSFS issues resulting from new drivers previously.

I did install it yesterday because the release notes indicated that it fixed the problem of Nvidia Container consuming significant CPU resources in Task Manager. It has done that and also fixed the non-display of GPU utilization in the various overlay displays. Otherwise I can't tell any difference.

I know this has been discussed a lot of times, but in my opinion updating drivers each time a new one is released is a boring and time-consuming task that most of the time does not bring any noticeable improvement in the graphics/stability, etc., of the sim, unless there's something specifically related to MSFS clearly mentioned in the release notes.

I'm still in v551.76 from March 2024 and I'll probably do the next update by September-October this year, just to keep it up to date in some way.

Cheers, Ed

As you rightly say 'most of the time'. But sometimes the difference is vast. Personally I like to keep my PC up to date for the 1001 things I do with it every day other than just MSFS

I installed 560.81 and did a couple of flights.  I didn't notice any issues with it, and I didn't notice any obvious improvements either. Just my 2 cents ........

Initial thoughts after a couple of hours with the driver is that it does not feel quite as smooth as the previous one, but that could also be to do with the fact that I also did a big W11 update.  Will give it a bit more time before considering reverting (Nvidia DX cache deleted and rebuilt).

These are the steps I always perform after a driver update:

delete .dat files in %localAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SceneryIndexes

disable shader cache in NCP, reboot in safe mode, delete:
%userProfile%\AppData\LocalLow\NVIDIA\PerDriverVersion\DXCache
%localAppData%\NVIDIA\GLCache
%localAppData%\D3DSCache

then another reboot and enable shader cache

Yeah, I think it's well worth going through this process.

Just curious, is there a recommendation from either NVidia or Asobo that this be done? I only ask because I have never, ever done this and I have never had issues. I don’t believe in fixing stuff that is not broken, so wondering if this is really necessary as a rule, or just a bit of “housekeeping” for the sake of housekeeping (that could create problems where there were none).

Purely housekeeping purposes, I actually copied most of the steps from somewhere else - a long time ago.
