OK. Much thanks and appreciation for taking the lead on this.  Based on the "choir" I am going with your recommendation.

Topic is SOLVED

New system build is scheduled for early next week.  Updated system specks are in my Avsim signature below.  Thanks for all the help.  Local system builder was also a big help.

Here is a great website for assembling  a list of components, with prices:

  • I was an Intel user for many years as I saw the CPUs as solid, reliable and less troublesome. Of late though Intel has lost its way. I think the AMD choices should seriously be considered. I built a 7

  • The only choice that makes sense is the AMD X3D CPU. They are hands down the best for MSFS and with the whole Intel debacle going on, issues effecting both 13th and 14th gen CPUs, every chip above 65w

  • Basically I agree regarding performance in regard of FPS and such. But the VRAM might be an issue, especially when going 4K (or VR). I easily max. out my VRAM (16GB as the 4070Ti Super) on 4K when not

AMD 9950X with latest Preview Win11 builds … might want to wait for end of September to get the new AM5 motherboards with latest chipset (X870E) designed to work even better with 9950X.  Or wait for the 3D cache variants of the AMD 9000 CPUs.

Intel is currently not an option due to their design flaws and the last thing you want is a Firmware update that reduces voltage and max boot.  I’m sure Intel will bounce back, just not for 2024.

Well because I also use the machine for photo en video editing and then Intel outruns AMD by a mile.

That’s false, I have 4 Intel and 3 AMD PCs for video (DaVinci Resolve and Topaz Video AI) and audio (Digital Performer) with AMD and nVidia GPUs.

AMD 9950X + nVidia 4090 (performs the best in everything, games, DaVinci, Topaz, DP)

AMD 7950X + AMD 7900XTX (primarily used for games and as headless workstation for background rendering of DaVinci Resolve projects)

AMD 5950X + nVidia 3090 (primarily for software development using MS Visual Studio 2022)

Intel 12900K + nVidia 4070 Ti Super (video AI work horse and DVD/BD to mp4 conversion for media server)

Intel 14900K + nVidia Titan XP (started to BSOD frequently, unable to resolve even with patch, replace by below 12900K)

Intel 12900K + nVidia 1080Ti (UnRaid - Linux kernel - VMs, Plex media server, PostgreSQL database server)

Intel 7900X + nVidia 3060Ti (Ubuntu - Linux kernel)

Wiring cleanup pending.  I’m not the type to be “Brand” loyal, I get what works for me hence the mix of CPU/GPUs.

If you’re on a tight budget, then I’d opt for waiting for the AMD 9000 series 3D cache CPUs.

I would never recommend a 13900 or 14900 to anyone right now with the issues Intel and the MB manufacturers are struggling with.  That's why I stayed on a 12700K

Me as well ! my 12700K runs really well with my 4090, I am considering switching to AMD but I am going to wait and see how MSFS 2024 performs first. I lock my fps at 72 in Riva, utilize the awesome AutoFPS and have a buttery smooth experience. Once in the air I have a TLOD of 400 and with the Bing maps mod the sim looks spectacular. The only thing I do is drop my fps lock down to 60 if I am flying in or out of a major hub like IniBuilds EGLL in something like the 777
