August 18, 20241 yr I'm curious to compare default vs 'usual' modded X plane 12 visuals before buying but don't know if mods work in the Xplane 12 demo? Edited August 18, 20241 yr by VeryBumpy
August 18, 20241 yr Yes but only in the demo areas: region around KPDX and I believe Hawaii(?) Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...
August 18, 20241 yr Author My initial impressions are I'm not very impressed with Ortho and Xworld vs default.
August 19, 20241 yr X-World lacks data coverage for trees and forests outside of Europe, so Global Forests v2 is kind of a mandatory investment to improve ortho scenery. If you want an impression of a certain area with that combo, post an airport, runway (or parking position) and camera pitch, heading and altitude. I'm pretty sure that some user is going to respond with the corresponding screenshot. August 19, 20241 yr Author Ah thanks, I didn't not realize Americas Xworld was sort of 'incomplete', I'm surprised they don't inform that on their web page.<shrug> I honestly don't mind the default XP12 gfx. They may not be exacting but they are very nice overall.

If thats an airport on the right hand side, it looks like you have them out of order in scenery_packs.ini -> the ortho shot is missing the airport objects, you want global airports above both iirc. August 20, 20241 yr Moderator For tree coverage, you can use my somewhat old but free scenery https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/45408-us-forests-and-woodland-for-ortho-scenery/ It used default art assets for trees, so it should just work in X-Plane 12, and will give much better and complete tree coverage for the USA and can be used on top of xWorld

THIS! I can only speak for myself, not only that I created some sceneries for XP, but also added thousands of buildings to OSM (in this case mostly to the Canary Islands). And as chance would have it, just today I started my XP again (after months) and took a longer flight over the Canary Islands. Flying over the buildings I contributed myself is great fun. My sceneries (excerpt): LPMA Madeira (XPFR), LGSR Santorini, LRBV Brasov, the city of Fürth (Germany), several libraries, ...
