August 18, 20241 yr My previous computer was a i7-7700K @ 4.20 GHz, 32 GB Ram, GTX1080Ti Driver 536.99 using Windows 10. Within MSFS2020 I had V-Sync ON with TAA selected - this gave no 'Tearing' problems at all but FPS reduced to 20 + flying the PMDG 737 over London, which made me decide to invest in a new computer. I bought a i9-14900K, 64 GB 5600MHz DDR5, RTX4090 24GB GPU with latest driver, using Windows 11 FPS has increased substantially over my last computer and much smoother with the same scenario as above (PMDG737 over London), however I now get very bad 'Tearing' when I scan side to side in ANY MSFS aeroplane cockpit. I have tried V-Sync on and off, various Anti-Aliasing options, reduced the Graphic options to LOW for testing purposes but the 'Tearing' remains quite bad. So I don't mess things up my Nvidia Control Panel is set to Default on both Global settings and Program settings. I then noticed playing DCS flying the A-10C that I was also getting 'Tearing' in this cockpit, so it doesn't seem to be confined to MSFS Any Graphics Gurus out there that can help please. Glen
August 18, 20241 yr Not a Graphics Guru in any way, but I suggest investing a few bucks in an utility available on Steam called Lossless Scaling and you'll have better FPS and no tearing. I have it set with the base sim setting to Vsync ON and get an almost constant 60 FPS in different flight scenarios on my monitor (maximum refresh rate of 60 FPS, unfortunately) with absolutely no tearing (there's a setting on the LS interface where you can manage to allow screen tearing between ON and OFF). And... this is important, LS can be used with any game in your PC, not only MSFS. August 18, 20241 yr Author Interesting, thanks for the info Ed I would however still like to know what's causing this problem on a more powerful computer ? Glen
August 18, 20241 yr Tearing has to do with vsync settings. It has nothing to do with how powerful your PC is. Try vsync on and 50% or 100%. Try vsync in Nvidia control panel and in msfs settings off and vice-versa. It also has to do with the frequ. your monitor operates in, the general rule is to have vsync set close to you monitors frequ. or to half of it. Do some research on vsync. Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.
August 18, 20241 yr Author Silicus, thanks for your reply, this is why I posted this question on this forum as I know FA about Tearing or V-Sync. As mentioned in my opening post I have tried many different settings including those you have mentioned. My less capable computer had no Tearing problems whatsoever. All I am asking is for a knowledgeable graphics person on this forum to help me solve this problem. I have tried V-sync settings in both MSFS options and Nvidia Control Panel without curing the problem, I'm sure its something very simple I have missed Glen
August 18, 20241 yr Have you tried vsync completely off? Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.
August 19, 20241 yr Tearing of the image while panning is a V-sync issue. You may have to try different V-sync settings to see which one eliminates the issue. August 19, 20241 yr Author Samsung 4K with max 60Hz, probably not the best monitor out there but I was limited for funds. I have tried various V-Sync settings in both MSFS and Nvidia Control Panel, nothing seems to make any difference. Glen

If you go over that your bound to get some tearing as your new system is bombarding your monitors maximum refresh rate. Can i suggest trying to lock your games FPS to 60 or 59 + Vsync and see if the situation improves ? October 13, 20241 yr You need a G-Sync monitor with higher refresh rate for best result, but you can try to lock fps at 60 and use V-Sync in Nvidia settings, (not in game).
