Stuck at 4/5 after pressing Fly

Featured Replies

Hi,

as the title says, the sim gets stuck at 4/5 loading into a flight after I press "Fly". I tried everything:

- deleted both Nvidia caches

- updated Nvidia graphics drivers (was on one version back) - I have a RTX 4090

- empty community folder

- deleted ..AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\cache, ..AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\SceneryIndexes

- deleted FlightSimulator.CFG and disabled Navigraph and Fenix entries in exe.xml

- tried with DX11

- switched back to original nvngx_dlss.dll and nvngx_dlssg.dll, restored Flight Simulator entry in Nvidia inspector to default values

Nothing helps, the sim always gerts stuck at precisely the same spot. It looks alive, CPU and Memory values are changing a bit in the task manager, but that's it. I have to kill it.

What has changed since the previous run?

- my previous sesison was with the Fenix A320, today I selected Cows DA42.

- removed a joytick, added another -- but I disabled all controllers now

- otherwise no updates, no new stuff, expect the DA42 and three Orbx airports got updated - but Community folder is empty (also, I am using the Addon Linker)

I really, really do not wish to do a reinstall - I don't have a clue how to go about it, so any ideas and advice is more than welcome!

Thank you! 🙂

EDIT: I have the Steam version of MSFS

Could it be WASM compiling? Have you tried just leaving it for like 30 mins and see what happens?

I went through most of the suggestions found online... but not this one. Will try just to leave it be. 🙂

Thanks!

Any time the model changes or the cache is cleared, the sim has to (re)compile hundreds of shaders and WASM code specific to the airplane, which will cause a fairly long delay the first time the acft is loaded after the change--on my system it takes around 5 min longer than normal to load.

I let it be for almost an hour and it did not budge. Still stuck, I tried literally everything I found in different places, Flight Simulator Forum amogst them with official how-to's. I did log off and log in again in Xbox app and in Flight sim. What I have now is a bare bones sim as much as I could remove every add-on. Even tried moving stuff away temporarily. This is getting a bit frustrating, patient as I usually am... 🙃

Have you tried to start the same flight with one of the default aircraft, preferably one of the simple ones like the 172?
Like some of the other posters I also suspect that it could be WASM, which can take some time rebuilding after an update of an addon aircraft.

If it works with the default 172 than you probably do not have to reinstall the sim. recompiling WASM can take a long time, 10 minutes or longer is possible. An hour is very long though but it might still be possible or else something in that proces could go wrong. Reinstalling the Fenix or Cows might help, or troubleshooting the WASM proces.

The app is attempting to load the terrain tiles at around 80% showing on the progress bar. This could be the point at which you are stalling. Have you ever used the map enhancement tool? If so it could be worth checking your hosts file doesn’t contain unnecessary entries…

Edited to add: on further thought the terrain tiles (belonging to the world map) are loaded from the same server during the app startup sequence so if you’re getting no issues at that point you can ignore my suggestion.

More info

MSFS Map Enhancement does that! At least, that's exactly what it did to me when I uninstalled it. If you uninstalled it recently, you've got the culprit. It's all about hosts file, namely, after uninstallation one needs to create a new one and that should do it.

Thank you for your suggestions!

Unfortunately, it's none of those things. I never used map enhancements - I did check the hosts file - and I did try with different default aircraft. Community folder is empty, controllers unplugged. One last thing I need to check are all the files with the date stamp when the sim last ran successfully. Hopefully I'll find something.

have you set your folder permissions and security levels for all your folders and addons ?

I have that problem. How do I create a new one?

Check the time of your system clock - if it's off, you won't be able to connect to the xbox servers.

Time and date are correct. Unfortunately. 😁

I did manage to load the sim - with Online functionality OFF! If I switch Online functionality back ON, sim gets stuck at precisely the same spot after pressing Fly! as earlier. I tried turning just photogrammetry off - no help.

I also disabled Bitdefender temporarily just in case - no difference. And deleted the Direct X cache, again deleted SceneryIndexes, SceneryCache and DCE as suggested. This is now as vanilla sim as I can get it and still it won't load. At this point I am pretty sure that reinstalling would not help either.

My question is: what excatly gets loaded when  Online functionality is ON as opposed to what gets loaded when it is OFF? Just for the record I am on broadband internet 700/100

You can try using Process Monitor when you boot the flight to find out.  Hope you get it sorted out soon.

Edit: Just realized you are able to boot into the sim, but the hang occurs booting into a flight.
