December 5, 20241 yr In most YouTube reviews of various aircraft in MSFS2020 they begin with the aircraft static on the Tarmac, then they go through the various checklist items to get the aircraft engine started and the aircraft prepared for taxi/takeoff. On all of my aircraft, once I hit the "Ready to Fly" button in VR, I end up inside the aircraft with the engine already running, aircraft on the runway, and everything ready for takeoff. What do I need to do to begin with the aircraft static on the Tarmac, as if I just got into it. I assume there is a setting within MSFS2020 that I need to change but I don't know what it is. Can anyone point me in the correct direction?
December 5, 20241 yr You need to start on the ramp. Zoom in to the airport and find a ramp "dot" to start at. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

If there's no parking spots then your only way to start is Hot and Running at the end of the runway in MSFS2020. It is confusing at first - but no. When you first choose an airport, and before you click 'Ready to Fly' MSFS chooses a start runway by default and marks it with a green dot and a flag. In the example below, runway 24: But see the white dots? One at the start of each of the runway directions and, in this example, that bunch at the airport stands and pads? Well, click on any of those white dots and it will change your start point to there. If it's one of the runway dots, your engine will be running, if it's anywhere else it will start you parked, cold and dark. Hope this makes sense. December 9, 20241 yr Author Thanks guys! Stupid me, I never paid attention to the white dots. I just figured if I clicked on those the plane would still start up running and ready to go at those spots too. Now I know better.
December 15, 20241 yr A related question. When I end a flight at a parking spot, shut everything down and save the flight. And then load up the flight in the future, I'm not parked and the engine is running. Any way to prevent that? I9-9900, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3090 FTW

I'm not at my PC so can't double check, but I don't think it saves the last position when you closed the previous session. But, when you next boot up the sim, you can certainly choose your start position, either by the drop down box under the airport dropdown box or by clicking on any of the valid dots on the airport map, before clicking 'Ready to Fly' and thus stop it booting up a flight with the engine already running.
