Debating the realism of Flight Models between all of the different Sims currently available can literally a Sub Forum in itself.

The important thing is... if whatever Sim Platform you use brings you enjoyment and challenges you, it's all that matters.

I wish there WAS a subforum where people who own and use more than one sim can explain their observations and opinions. It's not MY SIM IS BETTER THAN YOURS when you own them both!

The 2nd point you made is how flight simulation will die a slow death in mediocrity because having FUN is more important to most people now.

Seriously??? Flight simulation will die a slow death in mediocrity because having FUN is more important??

The 20 year old FS2004 is still very much alive, and is being supported. That's for having fun as well as appealing to the more serious simmer/gamer.

You can't buy Fs2004 anymore. Otherwise you're actually agreeing with me.

But back to the feeling. A night time departure in FSX out of Singapore in the PMDG 747-400, massive thunderstorms all around (Active Sky). I was heavy near MTOM. Such an exhilarating feeling. Retracted the flaps too early, crazy turbulence, crashed, but it felt great! Haven't come close to replicating that feeling in 2020.

I suspect a lot of that "feeling" comes from Active Sky.  I understand that there's an Active Sky for MSFS 2020, but I have no idea what it's like.  Let us know if you're using Active Sky for 2020.  If you're not, and you get it, let us know if it's an improvement in the feels.

My biggest issue with 2024 right now is that the planes seem to be hard to control. I may be doing something wrong, but the controls are overly sensitive. I love the aesthetics of the new Interface, but I’m struggling with setting up the controller settings and keyboard mappings also. The other annoyance is that the library keeps reverting back to the default C Drive location. This one I don’t quite understand. Visually, the sim looks great, so I just need the functionality to be improved. My assumption is that this will all get sorted out in due time, and then MSFS 2024 will be outstanding.

Yes, it can still be bought. A simple Google will tell you that. Dunno if I am agreeing with you.

Nothing mediocre about that sim. It just works, on anything. Not dependent on constant updates & wifi.

I actually didn't get it for 2020. I'm sort of into the planning part so actually upper level winds are my priority. I've been impressed with the default weather in 2020 in that respect. Even overall, default weather I see as one of its strong points.

Me :makes a post bemoaning the falling quality of sims over time

You : Disagrees with my post saying a 2004 sim is better quality than online sims in 2024.

I'm not & have never said that a 2004 sim is better.

I was commenting on "The 2nd point you made is how flight simulation will die a slow death in mediocrity because having FUN is more important to most people now." & that flight simulation will not die a slow death, as has been proved!

Anyway!

Active Sky isn't just about the weather, but the overall atmospherics.  Things were happening in P3D with Active Sky that would never happen in MSFS 2020.  A lot of subtle things that affected the feeling of the flight.
