Yay! The UHF antenna is ok as well, because the stainless steel is really flexible...

  • I got a closer look at the antennas on the trunk lip, and it appears that the ATAS 120 and the dual-band antennas managed to survive as both their mounts allowed them to fold flat against the trunk.

One thing about Snow; it's all about the Moisture content. fluffy powder like snow that you can sweep away easily is much less prone to cause damage as compared to moisture laden 'Sierra Cement' which, as it accumulates, solidifies and becomes much heavier, crushing and snapping anything in its wake... car ports, branches and limbs, etc.

Ah, good 'ol Sierra Cement...haven't heard that term in a long time!  When I lived up in the San Bernardino mountains I used to ski down the road at Big Bear.  Had to keep my ski edges really sharp to get any purchase on that icy rock-hard "snow".  My ski bibs had duct tape all over the bottoms where the edges slashed through the fabric.

That reminder of my time in Socal brings me to the nasty fires there.  Major conflagrations there are nothing new--the Panorama Fire of 1954 burned up the north end of San Berdoo and the mountains to the north, then the 1970 Bear fire hit it again, then the 1980 Panorama Fire again, then the 2003 Old Fire, and then the 2023 Highland Fire, all driven by high and dry Santa Ana winds.  The brush accumulates over the course of years, the Santa Ana winds and a spark come together, and the rest is history.  That cycle of destruction has been going on for more than 70 years in Socal...this ain't climate change.  It's climate reality in that region, and has been at least since the horse and carriage days.

@n4gix  Hey Bill, we got another polar vortex a-comin'--you're about to see temps in the teens down there again!

Cheerio

Yeah, I've been closely monitoring the weather here in Arkansas, as well as Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Tennessee.

My landlord James and his daughter and son-in-law completely removed the remains of the canopy off my car this afternoon, which is good timing since I have a VA appointment with my podiatrist at 0800 Thursday morning.

The frame did manage to dent the roof just above the B pillar. I'm just delighted that none of the windows were broken! I had been out poking a few gashes in the canopy to allow the ice water to drain out. At a rough guess I estimate the canopy over the hood area had around 40 gallons.
