Screeming Fan Issue Solved 2024

Featured Replies

In 2020 I was able to run DLSS DLAA at ultra settings and the slight loss of performance was worth the improvement in quality.  In 2024 I was getting crashes and a GPU fan constantly screaming at me.

Changing to DLSS quality has solved my stability and screeming fan issues albeit with a slight quality loss.  I've even been able to crank up a few of my other settings and TLOD quite significantly.

FYI I am running a 5800X3D with an RTX3080, so if you are having similar problems, this might be a solution for you until you can upgrade your GPU.

Let us know if you find this helps (though I do miss DLAA a bit).

we discussed this in a separate thread. your power supply seems to be too weak for the RTX 3080 in MSFS 2024.

DLSS in QUALITY mode is very acceptable, except perhaps for some glass panels. But soon we will be able to install DLSS 4 which is visually far superior even to the latest DLSS 3.8.10 and will also run on RTX 30. but unless you have manually updated your current DLSS version via DLSS Swapper, you will still be using the older default version.  we have several threads about the upcoming benefits of DLSS 4 in this forum.

while this is not DLSS4 but AMD's implementation of FSR4, it gives us a good idea of the DLSS4 quality improvements, which should be similar:

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

'Performance' is by far the best DLSS setting for me. I also ran it at Ultra in 2020 but there is really no need to in 2024.

Just a question: do you run developer mode?

If so, enter options (of developer mode) and uncheck "smart docking system"

This setting let my GPU also run at 100%. Doesn't matter if any dev window is open or not.

Nope, I'm not using developer mode, but your comments are interesting.

I have taken this on board, but will probably go for an RTX4080 in the near future and will reconsider my PSU size at that point.  For the time being, running in DLSS Quality seems to be taking a fair bit of load off of the GPU.

Didn't like it at all in 2020, but may give it a go and see how it looks in 2024.

99% GPU load with or without Smart Docking, 4K resolution, most settings HIGH or MAX. I have never enabled Smart Docking. But it makes no difference.

ok, then it is different in your system. I can reproduce this here

would be helpful if you listed your hardware and settings, fps with and without smart docking. otherwise impossible to analyze.

FPS are good in both cases. But GPU runs at 100% with smart docking on.

But no need to analyze, I have no ptoblem switching it off. To be honest I do not know what that setting even does 😉

you didn't show what's the GPU load with Smart Docking disabled

Why? its not my thread and I do not complain.

But its between 50 and 98 % most times. never 100%

Does turning off Smart Docking effect IPAD functionality ? I would assume it will be fine thought I ask
