February 9, 20251 yr Just installed 2024 and after getting basic controls set up remain mystified about some very basic stuff so have not even been able to do a walk around so as to remove the covers on the jet intakes in the Longitude, so have yet to be able to do a flight in it. I really need a good quality tutorial at this point and suggestions will be looked at for sure. February 9, 20251 yr right click to toggle between walking and clicking on things. Walk near the plane, click the pitot cover, the wheel chocks and the static port cover if equipped. None of the rest of the walkaround needs to be followed because the walk/click interface is so annoying and the airplane is always in 100% perfect condition so it's pointless. Then click on the cockpit door. After that, it's like 2020. Ryzen 7 7800X3D/B650 X AX | 5090 | 32gig | Win10 | Pimax Crystal Light
February 9, 20251 yr Author Thanks, wasn't close enough to get those covers and everything else off, but just now did thanks again! You can also quickly remove everything by using Developer mode. It's like 1 click or someting to remove it all. Search some of the threads here at Avsim, it was discussed before. i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM
February 9, 20251 yr Author Thanks for that I just now got basic controls setup including nosewheel steering/rudder to my Cessna trim wheel so ready to do a first flight whoopee! Fortunately it's similar enough to 2020 to be able to figure out how to use the controller interface. Can't imagine a complete newbie trying to figure this out! I'm not a noob either, but even so I think I have PTSD from learning the controller interface. I've been using 3rd party airplanes so I have mostly avoided the poorly-implemented walkaround (so I learned SHIFT+C to immediately jump to the cockpit). The first-person mode is kind of neat (default keys: W, A, S, D, Spacebar to toggle run mode, C for crouch mode) and I've even taken off and run into the woods next to the airport screaming "WHY" a few times. Oh, and in the VC, to move around it's SHIFT+W, A, S,D and I think there are commands for up/down that I can't remember offhand. THAT is a major difference if you set up your own custom views as I do. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

Right now I'm a bit bummed by a few elements graphically. Maybe it's partly not being in the Beta, or it's just new rendering methods and a few other issues. I've now done a total of 3 flights in 2024, and here's what I saw: Just like when 2020 released I went to my old haunt, Chico CA, KCIC to check out how much better graphics might be, and I was blown away with the.....HORROR! These are the new trees? In winter too? Good Lord, wretched! I thought maybe this came from PG, so turned PG off: no diff. I went into 2020 right after this as I hadn't been in Chico in 2020 for years having moved out to Denver area: lots of TREES, though all deciduous which is mostly the case there this time of year. This shot is FAR MORE REALISTIC than what I saw in 2024: One flight was done to KSHR, Sheridan Wyo. Taxiing after landing we ran into this flickering strobing bunch of trees that were as distracting as if they'd been on fire! Not only did this happen during motion but stopped as well, flickering horror! Only a video would show this but it was just bad! And by far, worst of all, was cloud rendering. I got rid of voxel grid in 2020 a long time ago by manipulating render scale. Now, flying into KSHR which was overcast, it was nearly a full screen of a dim grid on all overcast, and the distance between grid lines varied with motion. I tell you what I've seen so far for cloud rendering? Major downturn. But, hopefully this is just my super limited experience or areas that might improve with future updates. Right now if I had to only have one sim for the next year? No question whatsoever: 2020 it would be. I've achieved essential perfection in rendering quality and performance. February 12, 20251 yr I use the Bijan add-on in 2024. I'm haven't checked if it would specifically help KCIC area but it might. And Bijan would fix it by request if he hasn't already. I think Asobo will eventually get around to fixing the biome definitions and AI tree gen, which is "ok" but a little too aggressive at present, although Bijan's mod helps many areas. I am also running without PG for most flights. Sometimes I turn it on just to see how it looks. After 3-4 years I'm still unconvinced. I find the clouds superior in 2024 in general. Less cauliflower. Less Mt. Saint Helens. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
February 12, 20251 yr Author This turned out to be a one-off hopefully--the cloud rendering was good, the funky PG trees were gone and trees present, etc. Must have been some kind of corruption. I waited to buy MSFS2024, so I might have avoided the pains of others in the first couple of weeks. However, even when I did install it in December, it was pretty bad the first couple of times I ran it. VC's weren't even loading in properly. You may have experienced something similar. Anyway since then it's been good, totally stable in my use (Free Flight). Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

In 2020 I've run into a bug occasionally where the generated objects get loaded and then refreshed over and over. It would usually manifest as cars disappearing and being replaced by different car models in parking lots. I'd see this happen 2-3 times per second if I parked and just watched. I always suspected that might explain why at some airports I'd almost always get a significant stutter on short final - that's where I got close enough that the load-in models were activated and starting to misbehave. That tree thing sounds a lot like the 2020 thing. Edited February 12, 20251 yr by eslader Ryzen 7 7800X3D/B650 X AX | 5090 | 32gig | Win10 | Pimax Crystal Light
