Hi,

When we moved from Brooklyn to Boca, I told my wife the garage is mine for my flight simulator. She nodded her head thinking I'd never go through with the deck. After about a year I told my wife to get her car out of the garage, need room for my simulator... It wasn't until the truck pulled up and dropped off a few wooden crates that she got the picture.

Guess she thought I was kidding... The deck has been in operation for about 10 years now, wow time flies. 😄

Do people use these just dedicated for MSFS? Lot of us need dual use setups for work etc.

Hi,

Can't speak for others, but I use them just for flight simulation. I have a separate computer for daily stuff.

Do you people not think one second about energy costs? I mean the size of the screen alone does influence how much power it draws. Bigger screen times 3, do the math. It's ridiculous.

It's my money.  I don't live off other people, so no I don't.

That was a joke right. Has to be.

Hi,

Being able to afford a flight deck like mine makes the cost to run multiple monitors minuscule in comparison. If I couldn't afford it, I wouldn't be doing it for so many years.

The cost is less than one Starbucks coffee a day.

Yes, you do. Do you think the energy comes out of thin air?

I've thought for a while that 3 screens needs to be full wrap-around, i.e. 3 x smaller screens like 32 inch or whatever - just doesn't cut it

I'm holding out for when either 3xprojectors or 3x60+ inch screens become viable for me cost-wise, especially as you need to buy all 3 at once ideally

until then, 1 single large (50 inch) does the job for now

Electricity costs us about 4% of monthly income. We keep the upstairs living room light fixture on 24/7. That one LED bulb has lasted 12 years, so far, is never turned off. It signals to any unwanted night time intruder they should look for another house that's all dark.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

LED's are energy efficient already. But if you keep it just to deter possible burglars, why not put it on a timer that sets it to on after dark only. Would save money and energy.

It's the little things. They add up.

What if one is getting their energy from a wind turbine?

Hi,

I found the short throw projectors image to be washed out, I now use the projector (paid a grand when it was new) for our front window during the holidays. The backlighting and HDR on the newer TVs give such a vibrant view that I don't mind the bezels, they just look like window posts.

But getting those screens to your shoulder level for a full 180 degree view is extremely immersive. With the 75" monitors they go just past my shoulders and the side window posts.

Or a solar panel on the own roof. But who does? Most people have no say in what their energy mix is.

I myself had fooled myself years into thinking that if I pay for an eco gas version, I only get green energy. But I don't. And as long as we don't have complete control over it, we have to at least try to be conscious about what we spend on energy. Because that is the only way for the averge person to measure their enviromental impact.

"I can afford it, so what?!" is not an approach that we can afford ourselves any longer.

Solar heats my pool and hot tub and it also powers the well pump that feeds my lawn, I do my part... but I'm not a fanatic. Even if I run a four hour flight every day for a year, which I do not. The cost per TV is $2.46 a month. That's less than $89.00 for the year for all three TVs. You can bet someone driving a Tesla getting their energy from online plants (coal, oil, reactor, dieseal generator) does way more harm than my flight deck.
