February 18, 20251 yr All the to and fro over XPlane and MS sort of ignores the steady and incremental improvements to XPlane, more so the so called lack of addon aircraft or developers bailing or not doing stuff. What more modern stuff you could want I am not sure as the tubeliner world is already very well covered and GA or light aircraft even more so. In fact I cannot think of many aeroplanes that I would hanker after to add to my sim world. I just thought I would mention these two for those interested who may not be aware of them and all I can say is well here are some amazing projects that are close to finality: Boeing 314 Clipper flying boat by Pegasus Aeroworks is in final stages and will be released shortly for XP12. or Sud Aviation Caravelle by Pilot NL - this has been a labour of love it seems but is also very close to final completion and release. A prerelease Beta Version is already available to buy! Yes they are old aeroplanes but the time and effort by the developers involved is very impressive. The quality of the builds is very impressive, textures details etc. Both will get an immediate place in my XPlane world. IF only FJS could be persuaded to update the B737 100 and B727s for XP12. Alas I think not! Edited February 18, 20251 yr by coastaldriver
February 18, 20251 yr Wow!!!! Thank you!!! Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
February 18, 20251 yr The Caravelle is going to be a guaranteed hit. Even the current alpha, while certainly still rough all around, already had some elements that made me go "Wow". By the way: Interested parties can test its latest WIP releases by joining Rico's Patreon (at the co-pilot tier): https://www.patreon.com/PilotNL 8 hours ago, coastaldriver said: IF only FJS could be persuaded to update the B737 100 and B727s for XP12. Alas I think not! They allegedly have them on their to-do list, but don't appear to work on them (or at least don't talk about them in public). In any case, I wouldn't hold my breath. Other devs have nice vintage jets, too. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
January 11Jan 11 The Caravelle is at version 0.34 by now and already the best classic jet add-on ever made for X-Plane. The amount of attention to detail that Rico (the developer) pours into the model is outstanding. POH accurate flows and systems, a virtual crew to help you with the checklist flows and slaps on the wrist. No bleed air for pressurization with the engines operating near the red line, popped landing light motor fuses because you've operated the motors for too long and this is just the stuff I've discovered by mishandling the aircraft. Speaking of "handling", it also feels like I'd expect a Caravelle to feel. Mind the huge wing on landing though (50% more area than a DC-9). https://www.patreon.com/cw/PilotNL 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
January 11Jan 11 Author Time to start to give the Caravelle a work out. Now I am happy with my replacement OS and XP 12 I can start to give this one the attention it deserves. Did a couple of paints but was waiting for those long awaited texture-skins fix up - maybe!

Release 0.34 has a proper paint kit and Rico has apparently fixed the mirrored engine nacelles, so I guess the model is ready to receive more liveries. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days

I hear this from the MSFS crowd fairly frequently. My usual response is that while it's true there's a lot of aircraft releasing for MSFS, there's so many aircraft that are already available in X-Plane (e.g., all the angst over the BlueBird 757 many years delays while I'm happy to continue right on with Flight Factor's more or less continuously updated version!) In any case, it's great to see "outlier" aircraft like these! The flying boat would be my preference 💘👍
January 12Jan 12 Ok! Going Caravelle here too!!! I want this paint PULEEEEEEZE!!!! Now the latest update 0.34 has completely redone the texture file name conventions, texture mapping etc etc. In short no paint done previously will now work and all that were done will need to be redone a right royal PIA. Appreciate the texture upgrades etc but I am learning a new paint program (GIMP) so other things before I go back to the Caravelle.
January 12Jan 12 Author Shortage of golden oldies at the moment - still not bad really but if you are a Linux XP user a few others bite the dust like the IXEG B737-300. Still promising Nimbus B707 is on the horizon and few others being worked on (727, DC8) nothing in the big piston era alas. Although the B314 is a standout.

If you're coming from other tools like Photoshop, GIMP feels a bit alien at first, but once you get the hang of it, only bad texture mapping (distorted parts, scaling issues, etc.) can stop you from making liveries. 15 hours ago, coastaldriver said: Shortage of golden oldies at the moment - still not bad really but if you are a Linux XP user a few others bite the dust like the IXEG B737-300.
