MSFS 2020 v MSFS 2024 v Real World

Tree variation is certainly something that could be improved in MSFS 2020, but it is also true that tree density could do with being hauled back a bit in MSFS 2024 (based partly on what I can see in the video). However, what puzzles me is the difference in base imagery between the two. Why are they using different texture sets? Why do they not use the same Bing images? I know at least one location (east of Lelystad in the Netherlands) where this would be a significant improvement in MSFS 2020, as the lime green textures and horrible joint line visible in this location are really not acceptable for a flight simulator (where immersion is everything).

I also notice that the solar panels visible at the real world airport are nowhere to be seen in both simulators. Maybe this video was shot with the default version of the airport? I would certainly expect those solar panels to be modelled in a payware version of the airport.

That video proved to me that I don't need to move on from MS2020 especially with all or most of my favorite aircraft still only exist there.

  • Was about to say the same! Some of the trees in the real life clip are way too tall, and the haze is overdone as well.

The whole premise of the video is flawed as no one forced anyone to jump in, everyone has a choice on what sim they use and for many it is meeting all their needs and they are quite happy while for some the lack of their marketplace items or other add-ons is still a show stopper.

So as his poll (of a whopping 70 people showed) about half were more than happy with 2024 and about half weren't there "yet"

Just saved everyone the time of watching LOL

This shows one of my only complaints with MS2020...the streams/rivers are too prominent.  Not sure why most streams look like wide flowing rivers.

And the latest numbers from Steam survey shows twice as many users still flying 2020, versus 2024. So there is that.. 🤣

I have to ask as a simmer who wants to see the long term success of flight simming why is that good or something to laugh at?   It puts the platform at risk for all of us if the bean counters don't think it was a success.  MS has a track history of axing "once" popular franchises and that happening again wouldn't be funny to me.  It would be devastating to the hobby, devastating to all of the peripherals and devices we are seeing now and where would that leave us all?

Yes, the Steam numbers are alarming but they are also a fraction of the total user base as has been pointed out on numerous occasions but one can't deny it is certainly a leading indicator and those numbers are one point of data.

You are the one that posted LOL after the video where you said the numbers of the poll were reallly small. Now you don't think it is funny any more??

I laughed at anyone trying to draw a conclusion from 70 people which is how many responded to his video.  Yes, I laughed at the 70 people in his video who were basically split 50/50 and proved nothing.

That is TOTALLY different from laughing because 2020 has double the Steam users...  Not even close to related.

I'm not here making laughing smilies because one sim has more users than another (I mean I really just had to type that to another adult) which as I mentioned I don't think accomplishes anything just as I don't think the video posted with 70 people responding about did WE  which now implies he is speaking for everyone opposed to himself, how can he say if "we" jumped in too early also means absolutely nothing.

It's not apparent higher up, but closer to the ground in that video, you can see the "cauliflower" type trees of MSFS 2020. It's one of the reasons why I can't go back to MSFS 2020, because the tree variation and vegetation variation in MSFS 2024 is simply at a whole new level.

One of the biggest improvements in MSFS 2024 is the increased tree variation and increase vegetation variation.  I'll admit, that when MSFS 2020 came out, it was revolutionary and I didn't mind the  "cauliflower" type trees of MSFS 2020.  But playing MSFS 2020 for several years, the "cauliflower" type trees get to you, and I am glad that they are not a major issue in MSFS 2024.

In general, if you like to fly "low and slow" such as bush flying, helicopter flying, etc, MSFS 2024 is a huge improvement over MSFS 2024 (and I have created a separate thread to discuss why MSFS 2024 is the best for "low and slow").

Nothing that 'Bijan 4 Season Pack v8 Earth FX' add on can't fix.

This is incorrect. I use and enjoy the Bijan scenery, but the advances in ground scenery in MS2024 vs. MS2020 are considerable, and beyond the scope of what Bijan is capable of.

The advances are minimal.

On the contrary -- I have been an MS2020 user from its beginning 4 1/2 years ago, and have been flying in MS2024 for several months, so I KNOW what the difference in ground scenery is.

It is huge, and creates a sense if immersion well beyond what MS2020 offers. This is not a subjective difference, it is real: far more varied and realistic vegetation, uneven ground surfaces,

rocks and pebbles, and more -- plus the ability to walk and jog over the landscape.  To call this difference minimal is flat wrong.

Furthermore, you implied earlier that Bijan's scenery can in effect duplicate, in MS2020, what MS2024 does in terms of scenery. Also absolutely wrong.

Same here (you really shouldn't think otherwise). Not interested in walking around it's a flying sim. Implied and duplicate have different meanings. Enough with word salad.
