Pushback Toolbar Question

Featured Replies

This addon from flightsim.to seems to work well except that all the communication messages are heard twice.  Has anyone else seen this ?  Known problem or just me ?  Currently on MSFS 2020.

Thanks

Been using it for years on all my aircraft in 2020, no issues at all.

I have the same issue. Did you fix it ?

No, the problem persists but it's less of a problem for me because lately I have been flying in MSFS 2024 and there I had stopped using the Toolbar altogether because of its wacko behavior.  I have not decided yet what I want to do long-term in MSFS 2024.

@zachlog What are you using as an alternative to toolbar pushback? I love this addon but in MSFS2024, you can't use the preplanning feature as the map is broken.

Currently, the pushback phase of my flying is the weak link for my flights.   I have been unable to find a product that does only pushbacks accurately and reliably.  I am aware of GSX but it has quite a few other functions which do not interest me much plus it adds unnecessary complexity in the simulation environment to which I am very sensitive.  One day I might wave the white flag and get it.  For now, when flying Fenix aircraft, I use the native built-in function.  For PMDG aircraft, I use the native MSFS 2024 function (SHIFT + P).

After a six-month hiatus from using GSX because of a few issues that, for me, made it a slight net loser, I decided to have another look to see if anything has changed.  Right now, it's a definite net winner.  Like you might someday, I'm pretty much using it only for pushback functions, which includes comms to verify engines running when it's time, and that's it.  I do not use arrival features as I prefer default....when the marshals return to MSFS2024 that is--for now I just park w/o marshals.   This lets me go to the arrival gate MSFS 2024 ATC would send me to, so have the subtle taxi ribbon/green dot to direct me w/o the need for banners or a follow-me vehicle.  It's only meaningful downfall for me now is it benefits from having custom-built profiles to help resolve issues stemming from GSX not having access to enough data to go on all the time w/o a bespoke profile.  Good profiles, I just learned, are very and time consuming to produce.  That being said, I don't have a lot of profiles downloaded yet having just got back into GSX a week ago, and usually there isn't a serious problem even in airports w/o a custom profile.  So, as one who was frustrated enough to bail on it I can safely recommend it for this piece now, the pushback piece.  I couldn't care less about PAX walking into the cabin it's to me superfluous and does not play any role for how I use the sim.  I use Self Loading Cargo and GSX integrates fairly well with it.  SLC also offers its own pushback routine, but like anything but GSX it requires your visual guidance and direction ideally.

The other option you could consider which does work reliably (at least in MSFS2024)  is to use the Pushback Toolbar in manual mode. This works pretty well and provides an extra bit of realism of how to control the pushback speed and direction of the aircraft yourself. You can push and pull the aircraft as needed and has a simple interaction to apply the parking brake to the aircraft when the push has been completed. I have been using it in this mode for the last year and never had a problem with it.

When I first started using MSFS 2024, I tried using the Pushback Toolbar in manual mode the same way I used it in MSFS 2020.  It kind of works but not reliably.  When I hit REVERSE, or whatever the name of the button to go back, the A/C's nose starts to rise like an artillery battery and when I terminate pushback, the A/C's nose is back on the tarmac.  It also did some other strange things so I uninstalled it.  These behaviors are above and beyond hearing the same message multiple times both from ground and flight deck crews.  If you have any ideas on anything I need to do to correct the Pushback Toolbar's behavior, please let me know.

Hmm...how long do you think it would take for someone who had done a couple to do say a good job on a KJFK, or a EDDF or similar?

Feel you!
I just want to do proper pushbacks.
I do not want to pay for the 50 extra features GSX offers for various reasons.
Just a tool, that has got a map where I can define 3 points and hit "GO".
And then it goes.
Nothing more, nothing less.

For me, manual mode (works, but) significantly reduces the level of realism or immersion. When pretending to fly in the sim, I do not wanna switch to the outside view as I couldn't do this either when being a R/W pilot and apart from this, I can't focus on ENG start parallel, which I can do when pushback is preset and is performed automatically.

From the sounds of it are you using a combination of ATC services and the manual pushback tool? If so, try not using any ATC services. Prep the cockpit and then invoke the manual pushback tool from the menu. I have been using the manual pb tool with the Inibuilds A320NEO and never observed the problem you mentioned with it, so I suspect either a combination of tools are creating a conflict or it could also be aircraft specific. I dont hear any voices when using the pb tool in manual mode.

I have never used the MSFS 2024 ATC services so this service has been disabled since I first installed the product....so I thought.  Since you suggested that ATC might be the problem, I went over the multiple settings for disabling ATC yet again in this fragmented world of MSFS.  Setting ATC ENFORCE FLIGHT PLAN is set to ON so this might be the problem.  I have no idea how it got set to ON, will set to OFF and try again.  I fly PMDG and Fenix exclusively, and as far as I know, there are no PB tool conflicts with either.

Thanks a lot & Happy Holidays
