Special Effects gone after new GPU

Featured Replies

Hi all, I upgraded to a 5090 without complaints except I have no special effects such as Contrails and Tire Smoke.

I tried older driver options without success.

I do use TOGA Envir special effects and have tried an uninstall returning to default effects, also without success.

I also tried selecting medium instead of high in the in-game sliders.

Anyone got some ideas. Seems strange that a new GPU would cause this.

thx

Hi All,

I’ve completed a new install on P3dv5 on a completely new rig: 285k and the 5090 latest drivers.

Default install no addons. I still have no effects.

Anyone else able to comment on their 5090?

It is entirely possible that this is a new problem directly related to your particular graphics card that you bought.  I say that because I have had unique visual or graphics related problems related to my specific AMD GPU in the past, not with P3D specifically but games that I enjoy.

For example, there was a driving game that I was playing that worked fine, I installed my new GPU and suddenly I had giant spikes coming out of the ground.  Turns out the problem was related to an AMD driver issue and the developer had to work with AMD to fix it.

It may be worth it to contact Nvidia and see if there is anything possible they can do to help, or at least maybe they could help verify if this is a graphics card driver problem.

You could also try temporarily reinstalling your old GPU (if possible) and test P3D just to verify if it really is a GPU driver problem or if something else is going on.

Thx,

A bit disappointing, but it does seem to point to a GPU or driver issue.

Isn't there some action to perform in the cfg file to remove some reference to the previous card ?

The only reference I know of would be something like this:

[DISPLAY.Device.AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT.0.0]
Mode=2560x1440x32

Of course, yours will have a different make and model listed than mine does.  In my file, I can find this between [AContain] and [TrafficManager] sections.

It can't hurt to check it.

Another thing you could try if you have no other choice, is to look for older driver versions, install and test them with P3D.  This could potentially fix the issue too.

Thx,

I have already tried the last 3 older drivers without success. However Ive popped a post on the nvidia support forums like you suggested.

Also the old card (3090TI) does bring back the special effects. So could be a case of waiting for a compatible driver for the 5090 if they can be bothered with a fix for P3D.

Looks like I’ll need to wait impatiently for newer drivers. However the performance boost with the new GPU was nice to see.

If you have a direct way of contacting Nvidia for support, it may be a good idea to do that too.  Also I would recommend contacting Lockheed Martin to try to make them aware of it.  If it really is a driver bug, then that is something even they may consider addressing in an update if you use a more modern version of P3D that is still available for sale.

I know contacting these big companies to try to get some help may seem daunting, but it cannot hurt to at least try to make them aware of the problem.

Just a thought, have you tried doing more basic troubleshooting like just simply updating Windows?  When I install new hardware, I usually manually check for updates just in case.  Sometimes it can be just as simple as that.

Being that the 5090 is a pretty new card, I'm guessing that the drivers haven't yet been updated to support P3D.

Sounds like a good hypothesis, there's a new post on the P3D forum as per below.
