Why you should research before buying vidoe cards

Featured Replies

Watch. Nvidia being dodgy again.

nVidia does indeed get the slim award for 2025.  Although I was finally was able to get a 5090 at MSRP, if you turn off DLSS, Frame Gen and crank up SSAA (rather than TAA) for a truly clear and crisp image quality, I get about 15% FPS improvement over my AMD 9070XT ... probably the greatest con going.

And you bet SSAA image quality is light years better than DLSS 4 ... the down side is SSAA 200 setting in MSFS 2024 will put you at 600 Watts.

No such thing as an entry level card anymore, There cards are performing worse, hence the push to get "yes",  people to review them. Performance increase per price increase is getting worse. All driven by Ai not what gamers want or need.

Nvidia is getting hammered over the 5060.. Wonder if they will make a speech.

I do feel like I need a shower after my 5090 purchase.  The 5090 is a scam … DLSS and Frame Generation are image quality downgrades, NOT upgrades … they are only “upgrades” if FPS is more important than image quality.

Like I posted earlier, turn OFF DLSS and frame generation and turn ON SSAA (not TAA) and set = 200 and, 5090 will drop to 37-42 FPS in MSFS 2024 at Ultra settings and watts usage will jump to 600.  Pathetic considering the LOD radius is still way less than other sims.

There is also a bug in the drivers for “Optimize” settings that changes settings in MSFS 2020 (UserCfg.opt) … it would crash MSFS 2020 if I didn’t use “Optimize” from nVidia App.  Turns out the optimize settings are incorrectly written to the UserCfg.opt causing MSFS to crash on start.  I had to delete the Cache, and manually edit the UserCfg.opt so I could get MSFS to load.  I also removed any and all search paths in nVidia App so that it can’t “find” games that it wasn’t to “adjust” as optimized.  I feel sorry for standard end user that is probably getting settings they don’t understand nor why they can’t seem to change them as nVidia will take control.

And I need a shower after that fs2020/4 rant. Anything constructive to say about XP12+5090?

Seems like more of a rant on Nvidia than MS2020/2024 with a workaround for a config file. Does XP12 support DLSS4?

No.  X-Plane supports FSR.  It has to be multi platform.  DLSS is confined to NVIDIA GPU's only.  Mac's use AMD.  FSR is compatible with both NVIDIA and AMD.

Any info on setting up FSR for XP12? I take it, upscaling is not available via XP12 menu, or is it available via developers menu?

Update: I have to crank up the flight deck and look at the graphics menu, think I seen something there, I just have sliders full right.

Under Settings/Graphics/Rendering Resolution (FSR Supersampling)

I have to read up on this, I just have it full right, that may be a mistake.

Full right means FSR is off.

I mean..exactly...who cares about that bit in this forum? Couldn't care less.

Does your new 5090 give you buyer's remorse when it comes to xp12? Or was it just the CPUs that you upgraded?

I run three 4090's, I have no plans on getting 5090s for my setup. XP12 doesn't use all the resources I have now, so I don't see the need for a 5000 series board?

I never have buyers remorse because I usually rent my video cards. What I mean by that is... I buy a 3090 for $1,900 when new, use it until the 4090 is released and then sell my 3090 on ebay. I just sold all three of my EVGA FTW3 3090s for over a grand each.
