SU3 Beta - a positive experience...

Featured Replies

In my case the jump into SU3 was absolutely flawless and, I'd say, POSITIVE!

I only switched on my sim PC this last Saturday after more than one week away from it.

Applied a win11 update, then fetched the latest Nvidia Geeforce WHQL driver and rebooted to install the GPU drivers and then start FS 2024 which, last time I had used it, was in one of the last SU2 beta releases...

  • Before starting FS 2024 I didn't empty the Community folder from any of my addons, including the Fenix A320 and the Inibuilds A350. The sim started, I had to leave the desktop for a couple of minutes and when I returned the final loading process had finished and as I hit the button to start a session and changed to windowed mode to check the sim  version it was already in SU3 - 1.5. ...

I have always been in the Beta, and didn't leave it before starting FS 2024. I wasn't able to apply the final SU2 so my version before switching on again my sim PC after more than a week away from it was probably the latest SU2 beta before SU2 went final.

Since FS 2024 loaded already in SU3:

  • Have been flying the Fenix A320 in short / medium range flights, and after the first route I noticed there was a discrepancy between the versions of the Nav Database in Simbrief and in the sim, so when the fight ended I updated the Nav databases of FS 2024 and the Fenix to their latest version using the Navigraph HUB and restarted the sim to make a new flight. No problem at all.
  • Haven't experienced a single quirk, CTD, nothing. All fine, good performance, my settings, including Controllers, sim options like that of limiting FPS to 30, the location of my Community folder and cache file, which btw I didn't haven't cleared for quite a while, the disabled FS 2024 version of Beechcraft 350i and enabled FS 2020 version with the mods suggested by some of you at this forum were there...
  • Performance has always been great in FS 2024, and it keeps going that way.

Have quit using BATC or FSHUD, FSLTL or AIG for now and use only sim ATC and traffic. I don't really mind the 3d models.

  • I think ATC and AI Traffic got better since the last time I had used it because I actually used the default ATC in all of my Fenix 320 and Inibuilds 350 flights now in SU3 as well as with the default CJ4 and it didn't behave as wildly as it used to the last time I had tried it.

So, in my case, it's a RATHER POSITIVE EXPERIENCE with SU3 so far 👍🙂

So what was positive about it. You didn't actually say. How is SU3 better than SU2?

Looks at least as fluid as SU2, maybe a bit better, and I did notice ATC got a bit more coherent than before, but above all I didn't experience any of the problems I've been reading about from other users, even not having cleaned the Community folder, and having used Navigraph HUB to update the nav databases...

But I only had the chance to fly it a bit more during Sunday and now have to further explore graphics, weather, etc...

Real weather was also good,at least on terms of depicting more than less what was expected, although stratified clouds and cirrus or altostratus are still deficitary...

I did read about it, but haven't had the time to test it.

Will try to start with a few aircraft whose aerodynamics files I was willing to edit.

Will try to report back.

Yes you can.

Select the marketplace and then My Library. You will have the option to download the following

The Base Elements of the sim

World updates and City Updates

Any Upgrade level you purchased (Deluxe, etc)

The AI aircraft.

You are looking at 500-700 GB if you choose to download all of the content

WARNING

Your Sim will return to long initial start times similar to MSFS 2020.

However on the flip side your sim will pretty much return to MSFS2020 levels of streaming.

isn't there already an SU3 beta thread?

Yes, probably more than just one more, but I wanted to make clear that it's possible to get SU3 and be good with addons in the Community folder, updating or not the Nav databases, etc...

I did post at that thread something similar to this thread, but it could get lost in the many posts there.

I myself when started reading it found mostly users reporting problems, and solutions that included emptying the Community folder, not updating the Nav databases, leaving the beta branch before the update, etc.., so I was a bit afraid of starting FS 2024 without following any of these suggestions, and was happy to find that I experienced absolutely no problems and am running FS 2024 and my addons without glitches, at least so far...

I've been stuck at flight planner not spawning at airport, no base scenery so it seems.
