June 15, 2025Jun 15 Moderator Given the lack of Spelling proficiency so many Americans exhibit these days, American English may soon become intelligible as well, especially when so many actually boast and are proud of the fact that they can't spell. 🙄
June 19, 2025Jun 19 Man, I swear I can’t get over that British guy saying “It’s a Range Rover” it just lives rent free in my head.

Not proud of it, it's always been a bit of a handicap. I remember reading that Einstein was a poor speeler. Edited June 19, 2025Jun 19 by tdflightsim typo Tom MAKA = Make America Kind Again

Bill W To me they can look the same, but that's dyslexia for ya, I do know how to spell and know the difference but sometimes things like this slip simply because I missed it visually. No big deal I wouldn't yell at deaf people for being deaf either so best just to let these things be, it could be for many reasons, english is a second language, poor eyesight etc etc etc, better things in the world to worry about then how people spell over the internet. The internet is filled with spelling mistakes its a trash heap 🤣 Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
June 19, 2025Jun 19 I'm with Matthew on this one. I'm also a little bit dyslexic with 70 yr old eye sight. I often mean to type "I'll" or "I'm" but just type "I" instead. Same thing with "your" and "you're." Very common for me to leave a word out completely. I'm beginning to type in Ebonics I think. They need to come up with a handicapped typist emoji. June 19, 2025Jun 19 I rely on the built in spell checker to keep me mostly honest. If I can't figure out why my word is marked as spell checked, I'll google it. My complaints are with less/fewer, and with "different to", which is considered correct in spoken English in some regions. Ten or fifteen years ago I started using the "singular they" (google it if necessary) to avoid certain gendered language which some complained about, but they complained about singular they as well. Too bad, the same people who forced me to use it were the same ones complaining. I cannot type the word "probably" without messing it up. I started typing "prolly" instead. If I had problems with your and you're I'd simply replace it with "yer", as in "Yer on yer own." I've come to the conclusion that "Ebonics" is a legitimate dialect of English. That was an interesting rabbit hole to go down. 🙂 When my family moved from Pennsylvania to Texas when I was about 7 years old, I really disliked the Texas accent. Later I discovered it was the Pennsylvania accent and often weird word usage and pronunciation that was the problem. I used to claim that my mother was from Pennsylvania and, of course, did not speak English. 😄 (No offence to anyone from Pennsylvania; that particular accent and odd words has mostly disappeared. I've also learned to love various accents.) Hook Edited June 19, 2025Jun 19 by LHookins Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

For some reason I cannot get spell check to work on AVSIM with my browser, but that's not a bad thing I am now 5.5K posts invested in AVSIM which to be honest works that part of my brain on a daily basis with things like spelling or grammar, I aspire to do better by keeping up these skills. Sometimes I'll read before I post 2 or 3 times to make sure I get it right, and that is a good thing for brain exercise too 48 minutes ago, tdflightsim said: I'm also a little bit dyslexic with 70 yr old eye sight. Yup getting older too and eyesight slips a bit as well. Dimentia runs in the family so best medicine is keep exercising the brain. I used to do sudoku. I still do, but I used to, too 🤣 Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

It's odd how many errors I catch in that second read of the final post. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
