The Quest 3 will be OK for now and I will wait for the next generatioin VRheadsets to come out that are more user friendly.

You are exposing yourself to a lot of excess radiation, possible head tumors with the wireless/WiFi strapped to your head...

This stared in the sixties when teens held pocket transistor radios up to their ears for hours on end. Brain tumors spiked! Google it. 😆 🤣

pocket transistor radios

they don't transmit or radiate anything, unlike a TV remote control or cell phones. they  receive or "listen" and make audible what is in the airwaves anyway, those electromagnetic waves exist with or without their transistors radios.🤣

very nice.

I've just ordered a Crystal light, turned up yesterday and its already back in the box and being picked up today or tomorrow, worst headset I've ever tried, it was probably 2nd hand or a return anyway, one of the lens protectors was missing and the box had clearly been taped up a couple of times.

Apart from the rubbish fit the actual view through it was terrible, I tried loads of different settings most of yesterday but it was almost like looking at something through a goldfish bowl, the menu looked convex instead of flat like it does in my G2, but also the picture was far from clear, the only way I can describe it was when youtubers show you a "through the lens" view filmed with a phone, everything seemed to have some sort of luminance around it and it was almost double vision. Thats was even with everything cranked up to the max which made the frame rate unacceptable. Going to try a quest 3 next I think.

Just to ask a quick question as well, am I right when I say the quest 3s had the lower resolution screen whilst the quest 3 has the higher one and its nothing to do with the memory size. So in other words a quest 3 128GB will be better than a quest 3s 512GB, if indeed they do make those two models.

Yes - go for a Quest 3 and not a Quest 3S.  I'm sure for its spec, the Quest 3S is fine, but that spec is significantly lower than the Quest 3.

No very little non jonisation radiation. We are talking about effect in mW range.

That's  somewhat strange. What should we think about this comparison ?

not much except that it might be a defective unit. it is NOT representative for the Pimax Crystal Light in general.

Avoid the Quest 3s. It is a low performance headset. The Quest 3 is great. I run a Pimax Crystal Light and absolutely love it. You can see my hardware specs are not top end. But the Quest 3 has better performance and is a nice headset. You will probably want a top strap and a weight on the back (a battery pack weight, instead of just a lead slug, adds weight and adds battery run time). For headstraps, read the reviews on Amazon to get a good one everyone likes.

Have you also used the Quest 3 ?

No, I have used Quest 2 but not the Quest 3. I have seen enough Youtube videos of Q3 in msfs 2020 and 2024 to know that it is a very good headset. It can't produce as good an image as the PimaxCrystalLight according to all accounts. But it is more likely to arrive without issues. And it will give better fps than PCL. Q3 also has a good passthough to allow seeing your controllers. PCL has passthrough but the images are black and white and low resolution. You can't read keyboard key labels for instance, the image is too poor.

The HP Reverb G2 is now compatible with windows 11, using the new software finished a few days ago. Created by the guy who made OpenXRToolkit. Apparently his new software for the G2 has just been finished now.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

I have both the Quest 3 and the Pimax Crystal Light and I am happy to use them both.

In my view, they both need replacement face pads and extra weight at the back (which, as @Fielder says above, can conveniently double as a battery pack in the case of the Quest 3) but, while each has its own strengths and weaknesses, they are both crackingly good for MSFS VR.

- Virtual Desktop is, in my view, a must for the Quest 3.  Even when cabled, I find the Quest Link clunky.  Virtual Desktop is, for my system, by far the smoothest and is cable-free.

- Quest 3 is MUCH lighter, and sits high on your head compared with the PCL which is quite heavy and - when fitted correctly - sits very low.  It feels similar to a modern full face motorbike crash helmet to me.

- With the DMAS headphones, the PCL is HUGELY better sound.  With the stock in-strap headphones, it is similar to the Quest 3.

- The Quest 3 has an impressive vertical and horizontal field of view and a very large sweet spot/zone of clarity.  The PCL, with the right CPU and Graphics card oomph, can be set to have pretty much total field of view sharpness for the instrument panel.

- The PCL needs more hardware oomph and fiddling with settings probably than the Quest 3, although they both have their moments.

- Taking through-the-headset photo and in-flight video with the Quest 3 is very easy and built-in.  I find taking similar video with 3rd Party software needed to do the same with the PCL difficult and problematic

Why do I use both?

I find that, for many flights, the Quest 3 is just easier and lighter and visually is pretty darned good.  The PCL can be absolutely wonderful in terms of view but is heavier, a bit more claustrophobic and hotter to wear.

If I want a (at times) knockout clarity of view, I go PCL; if I want very respectable quality but easy flying, I go Quest 3.  I use them both and are happy with them both

How big is the image difference ? What issues are PCL more likely to arrive with ? How does passthrough work ? Assig a button to switch between the displays ?

I have the new Oasis driver so my HP G2 will continue to work. Still I would not mind having something better. And both Q3 and PCL seem better but how much ?

Have you used HP Reverb G2 so you can compare it with Q3 and PCL ?

I understand that in both cases two new products need to be purchased for both Q3 and PCL. Which are these ? How does the final prices end up to ? I see stock Q3 is cheaper than PCL
