How long?

Prepare for naughty comments fron young Charles. 🫣

What I'm referring to is my feline overlord. As some of you know, we've recently moved house. He now has a nice garden and countryside to explore, not too many cars.

The all knowing internet recommends two to three weeks to allow the cat to get used to the new place before letting them out. Well, we are now approaching three weeks and he’s very interested in the outdoors, tries to sneak out at every opportunity.

So, how long have you kept your feline inside before letting them out? Is three weeks long enough? If he tries to get back to Guernsey it would be a 38 mile swim. 😺

Your Kat knows where he lives.  He knows who feeds him.

We once moved house and let the various felines out as soon as we moved to the new house.  None of them ran off.

Unfortunately we moved from a semi-rural location to the suburbs and lost a couple over the next year.  Another I had to rescue from animal control because he visited a neighbor and was apparently helping him garden.  I didn't get to tell the neighbor to just turn the garden hose on him and he'd leave because animal control wouldn't tell me who it was.  At least it didn't happen again.

Should be fine to let him out whenever, just make sure he can get back in when he wants to.  We set up the new house with a cat door right away.

He seems interested in your tableware, examining it closely.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

We had four cats and let them out immediately.  We had pet doors installed in the carport door, the back yard door and the side patio door.  They went out and came back at their own whims.  They know where the food is and where their subjects reside when they want a little loven' and pettn'.

Moel

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Since my 3 cats are indoor people, I don't have the issue. Also, I havent moved houses in 22 years. 🙂

We did have one occasion where we let a black cat out too early and he vanished. 🤔

Rented, so we can't. Always had cat flaps back in the UK.

More than that, for us, before Guernsey and Jersey. Back in the UK I built a cat flap through from the kitchen into the garage. Cavity wall, so he had a mini corridor to crawl through. 😁 It was built for our previous cat, then this young man utilized it.

I'm thinking next week sometime will be his first exploratory mission. No doubt he'll probably go on a long trek, setting up his territory. Out in the countryside, so don't think there are many cats nearby, or at least I haven't seen any, so hopeful no combat.
