I always struggle to find the option to download in my Steam account. And I can't see any setting in the app itself to automatically update. I'm on 3.0.0.1 and getting very frustrated. It's a dreadful interface. I'm attaching a screenshot of my settings. Despite 3.0.0.1 showing top-left is this the latest version? Ray (Cheshire, England). July 26, 2025Jul 26 No, it is old, I have 3.2.1. But I agree with you, it is a terrible interface as far as updates go. The answer (for me, at least), is to go into Steam through your desktop Steam APP and not go to the Steam website. That way will eventually get you to your downloaded programs, where you should find LS and can update. Edited July 26, 2025Jul 26 by IanHarrison Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. July 26, 2025Jul 26 Moderator @IanHarrison, I’ve spent 30 mins trying to get my version updated without success. Logged in via the app and selected the Library option. It showed LS was available as an update. I also have the option to update when current version launched. Somehow it downloaded the update which I could see in Manage Downloads at the bottom. But I could find no option to install. Just an option to Launch. When I do open the app via a shortcut on my desktop it still shows 3.0.0.1 dated April. Same when I choose Launch. It’s the biggest pile of poo I’ve come across in a very long time. 😡 Ray (Cheshire, England). But one thing you can try is to look at the date/time of your current version, wherever it is and then run the downloaded version and then look (search) where it was installed and check the date/time of the version you find. If the install / update worked, the date will be nearer the current system date. Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. Z170x Gigabyte m/b. 28" LG HD monitor. July 26, 2025Jul 26 Moderator @IanHarrison, i searched for the download version but it’s nowhere obvious. Looking at all the settings in Steam nowhere does it ask you for a download folder. So wherever it is I haven’t a clue. I’ll have another go tomorrow. Ray (Cheshire, England). Despite 3.0.0.1 showing top-left is this the latest version? <SNIP> Hi Ray, I've used Steam for a very long time and by Steam I mean the app you install directly on your computer, it is the tool used to manage install locations and updates of items purchased or installed from Valve's Steam system and has it's own little quirks on how it works. So... I run Steam as an Admin so it has rights to install, technically this may not be needed as Windows generally makes the first created Windows account on the computer an admin account, myself I always delete this first created account and run off a limited account, thus items need to be specifically run as an admin, however typically the majority of people won't do such a configuration. A Steam install will define a specific *Steam* related path e.g. "~\Steam\SteamApps\common\Lossless Scaling" where the ~\ part of the path will be where you've chosen to install the Steam app itself, most people just go for the default which is typically the Windows "Program Files" protected path where Windows is configured with limited rights. You can create additional drive paths for Steam installs (all within the app) and move Steam installed items to any alternate path you've created, noting some installs will be able to be moved and some won't, e.g. FSX-SE cannot be moved as it's config files (held outside Steam) will contain paths set to the original install path, however most games can be moved and Lossless Scaling is no exception. You'll find the Add Drive option under Steam Settings | Storage and the paths I've defined for my own Steam installs are D:\Games and E:\Games (I never installed Steam to the "Program Files" pathing). In the far past Steam used to let you specifically avoid updates, however since the advent of online game play all you can do is slightly delay an update. That said there are various methods and mods used to avoid updating, for example in the case of Lossless Scaling it can be moved to a path outside of Steam and run it from the new path, thus Steam will not update LS in that path as Steam doesn't know about it. Steam will of course update the version installed inside it's own app paths. Use the Steam App Properties option of the installed item to locate where it has been installed by Steam. Is it possible Lossless Scaling was moved to to a path outside of Steam and your shortcut is linked to that path ? Note: All Steam installed items are placed inside the defined Steam path of "~\Steam\SteamApps\common\" where ~\ is the root. Thanks Rogen for the explanation. I let Steam install to the default location under C:\Program Files. It was in one of the many subfolders I found the executable and created a shortcut to it on the Desktop with admin privileges. It’s late now so I’ll have a look in the Common folder tomorrow and with a bit of luck the new version will be there. 👍 I don’t know why they make it so complicated. Ray (Cheshire, England). July 27, 2025Jul 27 Moderator They say the definition of madness is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. So I tried uninstalling via Steam and then reinstalling. Still had the same version. 3.0.0.1. I loaded Steam again and looked at the Library - Lossless Scaling app. The Selected Version was 3.0.0.1 legacy. I clicked on the dropdown and a Beta window opened with the option of installing legacy 3.1 to 3.1.0.2. I selected it and it immediately downloaded and installed. Now I just need so advice from experts on which if any settings might improve performance. Ray (Cheshire, England). July 27, 2025Jul 27 Moderator I turned off the Beta option and I now have v3.2.1. That seems to have sorted it. Thanks @sloppysmusic Ray (Cheshire, England).
