Dev Stream 07/23 – When Enthusiasm Hits Turbulence

A blog is a terrible idea, if it replaces the Q&A. The best thing about the Twitch Q&A is that we can ask them questions in real time and put them on the spot.  And I have to say, over the years watching, they have often taken many tough questions from the chat during the stream. They don't answer all the questions, as there are way more questions from the chat that are asked, that they can answer.  But they have taken many tough questions on the spot, especially if the chat keeps repeating it.

If they replaced it with a blog, the communication would be 100x worse.  We can't follow up if there is something they don't understand. In the Twitch Q&A, if they answer the question and the chat thinks their is some misunderstanding, the chat will often correct them in real time, and sometimes they pick up on it. That will never happen with a blog, the misunderstanding would persist indefinitely.

I never once said a blog would "replace" the Q&A, I very clearly said "by all means do them two or three times a year to keep up appearances and showcase Partners and such".

Both the weekly dev blog updates as well as these live Q&A sessions at the current cadence is quite enough, and if anything I'd like more live Q&As please... contrary to the rantings of those who don't get their particular questions answered, MS/Asobo do answer a lot of questions and reveal a lot of info which a lot of us find useful. Those not finding it useful have this rather useful course of action they can take: not watch them.

Thank you again to all who tried to participate and propose ideas*.  I tried to steer this conversation on how can we could help (aside from beta testing, sharing feedback, engaging in forums...) and how Dev LiveStream could be improved.

As in social network, this forum polarized position. While some here expressed disappointment with the tone and perceived lack of progress, others clearly supported the dev, citing the complexity of the platform and appreciating their transparency.

So far, the suggested improvement on the LiveDev Stream:

  • Onboarding new presenters and rotating voices
  • More direct communication from developers compared to some topics that were addressed by kind-of-spokemans not knowing timelines and less ambiguity. Maybe splitting streams by topic, making them shorter
  • Spotlight the guest dev at the beginning (to being between bug talk) or separate Streams although already tested by Microsoft with Youtube video series.

* Thread discussion was on how regular can help and how Live Devstream can be optimized.

Though if they do them more often wouldn't they have less to say in each one?

True, is the current cadence monthly? Just seems like it's been less frequent than that lately.
