IRS alignment Cessna Citation X (MSFS2020)

Featured Replies

If IRS alignment Cessna Citation X (MSFS2020) fails to align.

The downloaded Citation X pdf checklist says:

Before Start
STBY PWR Switch: ON
EMERG LT Switch: ARM
BATT 1 and BATT 2 Switches: ON
EICAS POWER Switch: ON
APU START: REFER TO APU START CHECKLIST
AVIONICS POWER Switch: ON
IRS: ALIGN/NAV
FMS: INSERT PRESENT POSITION

This fails to complete the IRS alignment.
Stays in Align mode indication.

The Downloaded Citation X tutor video reverses the last two steps.

So:
AVIONICS POWER Switch: ON
FMS: INSERT PRESENT POSITION
IRS: ALIGN, wait for Align light to extenguish (based on your config setting in EFB) , then NAV

Now the IRS aligns properly.

Interesting to see the various differences here. Not necessarily what I do at work... typically, though, after the IDENT page I'll go to POS INIT and once the GPS position displays select that.

  • From being an airplane owner  for over two decades! LOL I have my thing about draining battery on avionics unless aux power is hooked up or engine/APU is running.   By "avionic power" I mean

  • The stand-bys are still working.

You need to initialise your position before selecting Align.

IRS: ALIGN/NAV
FMS: INSERT PRESENT POSITION

This should be in reverse. First FMS: insert present position then IRS ALIGN.

Where did you get those steps from?

Was it a procedure that came with the FFX CitationX?

"AVIONIC POWER ON (two switches)"

Is actually one switch?

Not necessarily what I do at work... typically, though, after the IDENT page I'll go to POS INIT and once the GPS position displays select that. Then off to do whatever else while the alignment process runs. Failure to do so just means at the end of the alignment process you'll have a flashing ALIGN annunciator on the IRS until you enter an appropriate aircraft position.

AVIONIC POWER ON (two switches)

Early aircraft (prior to around S/N 101 or so? don't recall) have two switches, one EICAS, one AVIONICS. That's possibly the source of the referenced checklist.

I've been told but never found supporting information that the IRS in the actual aircraft is more accurate if one uses ALIGN and then when NAV RDY appears go to NAV. Lots of crews just go straight to NAV and it'll align just fine. Haven't bothered to purchase this aircraft so I've no idea if the model will do so. Typical alignment times at the latitudes I fly are 5-6 minutes.

I literally answered to you above!  It's my way using tp power up and align IRS FFX C750

Ok, so you are using your own procedure.

Maybe that is why in another post you could not get the IRS out of Align mode.

Seems to work in both ways for me, no matter the order between the IRS ALIGN/NAV and INSERT PRESENT POSITION actions.

Cheers, Ed

Are you starting from cold and dark?

Which checklist (or steps) are you using?

I would like to try the same.
