FS2020 v FS2024 - which is better?

Coming back to MSFS after a few years immersed in DCS. I saw the Fenix BFU being advertised and am really tempted to buy it and get back into long range IFR commercial simming again but I see that MSFS2020 and 2024 are still running side by side.

Is this like the old days when everyone ran different versions of P3D alongside each other because some addons were only available for certain versions? Or have things changed up a bit?

I still have MSFS2020 installed but I can't tell whether MSFS2024 is worth it or not. It appears that most or all addons have been developed to be fully compatible with both sims so... what's the advantages and disadvantages?

It’s not so much a question which is better, it’s more which is better for you.

As others here have said, 2024 has many potential advantages. I have both currently - but 2024 only on trial mode for £1. I’m on my third install and finally got a short flight going. It’s been quite a frustrating transition from 2020 for me. 2020 seems so easy even at the beginning in 2020 when I first started.

On the other hand, there maybe some distinct advantages- frames in 2020 Innsbruck to Bolzano test flight - 2020 40-50fps, 2024 - 140-160 fps!

I have 14900k RTX 5060 ti running at 2k.

So I think it’s all relative. I will persevere with 24 now in parallel to 2020.

This topic has never really come up here?  Doesn't seem to interest anyone.  😘

  • Unless you already have : 1. Lots of planes and scenery for 2020 and generally time and money sunk into it  2. Lots of time invested in 2020 - you know it well, you have figured out any quir

  • In my opinion, MSFS 2024 is superior to MSFS 2020. It has ... Better lighting Better physics Better cloud depiction Seasons Better textures Walk-around-mode

Still constantly stuck at loading screen, tried everything VPN, DNS, Rolling Cache and so on. Nothing helps.

Carreer complete mess,

How are you able to try the career mode if you can't get past the loading screen?

This thread and all comments on it will be rendered null and void every time Asobo issues a MANDATORY update for either /both sims.

So every few weeks basically.

The Problem is not the loading to the Menu its the loading of the missions and loading Into airports in free flight. Stuck there almost every second loading:(

The diversity of the answers, all of which are personal preferences and personal
experiences should tell you that what you need to do is make your own mind up,
just like all the contributors to your topic have.

I agree that much of the commentary in this (and similar) threads comparing MS2020 to MS2024 is subjective and reflects personal experience that is largely shaped by one's computer system, settings, and other factors. However, there are some respects in which the two sims can be directly compared, and in which there is no doubt that the sims differ markedly. An example is the oft-mentioned ground textures and flora in MS2024 which are significantly more detailed and closer to real life than those in MS2020. There are also other areas of difference that are well-documented. Whether these differences motivate one to switch sims, is another matter, but they are real.
