Questions about resizing AIG/FSLTL textures

Featured Replies

Hi all. I have read about the TextureOptimizer and I have it running now against my AIG library. Here are my questions:

1. Should I have specified that I want mipmaps? I didn't see the additional options until I already had it running.

2. Once it finally completes, other than renaming the old and new files, is there anything else I need to do? I think I remember reading somewhere about something you need to do with the json files but I can't find it anywhere.

Thanks

You absolutely have to rebulid the layout.json file, otherwise you wont see any plane.

Could you point me to instructions on how to do that? I have never done this process before today.

I asked on another thread how to do rebuild the jason file , and so far I  have not a clue how it is done. The instructions I have heard so far are just vague, nothing step by step.

Once you have the new textures in the fsltl-base folder, You copy the MSFS layout generator into the fsltl-base folder and just drag the layout.json file over the generator and it does it automatically.

What about mipmaps. I did not specify anything on the command line regarding them because I did not know about them at the time. Should AIG/FSLTL optimizations generate mipmaps?

Here is what I see, and when I drop the Layout jason over the generator.exe, nothing happens.  What am I doing wrong?

Are sure? Look at the time and date of the file after you have dragged it over the generator. It should change to the time you did drag it.

That means the generator did its work.

As mentioned, check the date and time of the .json file after you dragged it over the generator, if it’s updated to your current time and date, it’s worked and updated the layout to recognise the new texture sizes.

Actually MSFSLayoutGenerator.exe doesn't even have to reside in the same folder where your "layout.json" file is located. You can drag and drop that json file over the Generator exe, no matter where it is stored (mine's always somewhere under "Documents", and you layout.json file will get updated wherever it is, which as others have pointed out you'll be able to check by the date/time stamp...

OK, Thanks for the help everyone. I discovered that the layout.jason was actually updating, but I still couldn't see the aircraft that I had downloaded some new textures for, from Flightsim.to. I reinstalled the original textures which I had backed up, and now everything is working again.

I just ran the textureoptimizer against my AIG library. I selected 2048 as the resolution and the resulting file is larger than the original. That would seem to indicate something is not right.

Thoughts? Thanks.
