Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Takes Flight on PlayStation

To be fair you have to compare the price/performance of a PS5 with that of a 700$ gaming GPU, not with the price of a whole PC.

That makes no sense. A PS5 is a viable alternative to a PC for playing MSFS. They are substitute goods in that sense.

A GPU cannot be used by itself. It’s just a hunk of metal and plastic.

Also, a PS5 also can do much more than just play MSFS/ games. It is a complete home entertainment system with support for all streaming apps, can be used to pay 4K blue rays (I have the disk version), and can act as the hub for an in-home portable gaming solution with the PS portal.

Also I disagree that everyone needs both a high end PC (specifically that, since we are talking about 4K MSFS). and a PS5. I can afford a high end PC and a PS5 so I have both.

But if I needed a device for work and school and all, plus wanted something for gaming, and didn’t have the disposable income that I do now at my age, having worked for decades..

I would buy a cheap laptop and a PS5 for gaming. The total price would be (much) less than the price of a single high end GPU (the kind you need for 4K MSFS - easily over $1000 for just the GPU). And then you need the rest of the computer.

So no, the vast majority of people do not have both a (very) high end PC and a PS 5..

Anyway @MrFuzzy, thanks for a good discussion! Nice to see it conducted in good spirits. I respect your opinion and disagree, but in a nice way 🙂

I won’t continue on this topic anymore, there are of course multiple viewpoints.

Have a great weekend !

My only concern is how much work/resources are going to be available supporting 3 platforms (PC, XBOX, PS5) ... my guess is updates and bug fixes will start to take longer unless resources (developers) are increased to support the extra work load.

The updates will take a little longer, but I don't think it will take that much longer.  Most of the code is shared between PC, XBox, and PS5. It's just that there is some specific code for PC, XBox, and PS5 that will be separate.

But having MSFS 2024 on PS5 will only strengthen the 3rd party developer scene even more.  Think of the extra money that 3rd party developers can make now, if they sell to the additional customers on PS5.

MSFS already has the strongest 3rd party development scene, and it's not even close between MSFS and whoever is in 2nd place.  The gap in the development scene is huge between MSFS and whoever is in 2nd place.  PS5 will just sweeten the pot for 3rd party developers in MSFS.
