Is there a sunglasses add-on for MSFS20/24?

Featured Replies

As the title suggests...  Is there an add-on that simulates you putting on sunglasses?  I know it sounds a bit tongue and cheek but the sun visors in the 777 gave me the idea as it is amazing how you can see things through the visor you can't see without them depending on the sun and glare.  I would just like that same "visor functionality" to move with my head as if I were wearing sunglasses...   I know we have flashlight functionality but do we have sunglasses?

And before anyone asks the obvious, no, I won't be wearing my sunglasses at night 😎

Thanks as always.

And guess what, if you don't care about this or it doesn't interest you then you don't need to post to tell people you don't care or it doesn't interest you, no one cares you don't care and no one is interested you aren't interested so kindly just move along silently... 😶 (please) 🙂

Actually, sounds like a good idea!

Wonder if that could be done through lighting settings? No clue, just thinking out loud.

i7-13700KF @ 5.3GHz    32.0GB DDR5 @ 5600    RTX 3080    65" LG OLED @ 4k

openxr toolkit has a setting for 3 types of sunglasses i think.

and no, it is not a stupid topic.

x-plane always had (and still has) that option from the file menu

Actually, this leads me on to something else.  How about one of those hoods that people use to train for zero visibily conditions / instrument only training?

Its a simulator, just change the weather to not see anything when you look out of the window. The reason for the glases is that you can't do it in real life 😉

It would be cool to have IFR and VFR modes where aspects of your vision or the gauges are blocked to match RW training...

I know this really does sound a bit tongue and cheek like I said but at the same time it's all functionality I would really enjoy seeing.

Well sunglasses are the bare minimum, you be surprised in the RW how bright it's up front there in the sun, even with sunshades down...

And as for training I agree with Paul, it would be great to have those options 🙂

My biggest surprise when I flew in the 172 was how hard it was to see the gauges with the sun.

There is an additional factor now that has become a really big issue in the race cars as well because any polarized lens makes all of the displays in the car look blank so all the helmet visors and any sunglasses have to be non-polarized...

I'd imagine it's the same thing with glass cockpit displays and polarized lenses?

Yep non-polarized same

Polarised sun glasses will show all of the toughening patterns in the toughened glass for the front windscreens, especially in the big jets.
It can make it look a right mess and is how I used to look for even toughening / stress marks in the glass when I was inspecting them.

Not a problem.

What about sleeping masks ? For long flights in a widebody aircraft - change the pilot's seat with a passenger 🤣

You could tape a length of black paper over the top half of your monitor. Another of my handy tips is to have a desk fan blowing in your face when flying a biplane.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.
