Aircraft flown in real life

Featured Replies

It would be nice to have this thread opened up again. Always interesting to see the various career paths.

Another FW/RW jockey here. So much going on in real aviation these days. And the mishaps that always garner attention and discussion.

I am not a real life pilot, just a sim pilot, but I do have about 1.5 hours of stick time flying a Piper Super Cub.  The owner of the Cub was a CFI and he hoped that I would pursue lessons and a private license.  That was about seven months before the September 11 attacks and instead of spending money on lessons, I bought a house.  My soon-to-be fiance' was pleased with my decision.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

As passenger or pilot?

As pilot, I only have 3 minutes of stick time in a Pipistrel Alpha. Best money ever spent 😁

The posts here are great. Thanks for sharing. I flew for a living for 40 years of which 17 were rotary, six endorsements, the remainder fixed wing with another six endorsements. In the fixed wing part i did nine years forest fire suppression which was sometimes really rewarding. The pic is in the water bomber CL215 cockpit which was a hoot to fly.....finished up as a fed govt pilot and aviation safety inspector. Retired now. Still love the flight sims.

If anyone is considering a career as a pilot now is not a bad time to look into it as there's a shortage admittedly of experienced people but we were were all inexperienced when we started out and got that first job. Money now is much better and working conditions too. It can be incredibly rewarding but it can also be challenging on the home life. Think about it.
