Do you suffer from the 'keyboard stops working' problem?

Does this only happen with wireless keyboards? Mine is wired and I have never seen this problem.

Mine's wired too and it's happening fairly regularly for me.

@Fromage_Flippant's point about the keyboard profile is a good place for me to look.  It could be a corrupted profile or something.   So I'll try making a duplicate of my profile and assigning that.

The right choice for games is a mechanical switches keyboard, with antighosting. It is not guaranteed because the USB produces some lag sometimes (never happened to me), but it should work.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

This problem is not a keyboard problem.  The keyboard just does not respond in sim, while the mouse works.  Things that are non-sim commands like alt-tab work fine.  Anything that is a keyboard msfs function just doesn't work.  You start the sim and no keyboard.  It isn't like it randomly loses a keypress, nothing works from the start until you unplug/plug back in, or kill the sim (since esc doesn't work).  If the sim starts and the keyboard works, it works the whole flight.

You'd know if you've seen this bug.  You click "ready to fly" which works because the mouse is fine.  Then you are in walkaround mode and nothing.  No keys make you move, no shift-c, etc.  You alt-tab (which does work) and you can type as much as you like.  Go back to the sim and no keyboard.   I have a Razer mechanical wired kb.

Yep, that's the exact problem right there 🙂

I think calling it a "keyboard problem" is a fair analogue as to what's going on.  Although as you and others in the thread (including me) have pointed out, the keyboard does still work, just not in MSFS 2024.

I tend to get affected by it before I get to the walkaround mode.  It tends to trigger for me when I'm in the aircraft screen where you have tabs, to choose variant, livery, payload and identity.  I tend to first notice it when I hit 'tab' to bring up the EFB to set fuel.   I press 'tab' but the EFB doesn't pop up and BAM! that's the keyboard gone.

I've actually just noticed that my keyboard is so old, it's not even USB.... it's that purple round connector that all keyboards used to plug into the PC with!

(It's tecnhnically called a "PS2" plug - but nothing to do with Playstations!)

I've upgraded my PC about 5 times in the last 10 years but I never upgrade the keyboard.  Perhaps I should invest in a modern USB keyboard?   Although it seems to affect people regardless as to whether they're using wireless / wired / USB / PS2.

Do you have a ps2 to usb adapter then?  They haven't made those in a long time.  I'd say it might be time to upgrade that.  Find yourself a nice end of year mechanical keyboard on sale.  Obviously though it might not fix the problem entirely, but I've never seen it as bad as you.  Once I get in, things seem to work fine.  I get the issue, but it is rare.

No adaptor in my case, my PC (motherboard) still has the green and purple sockets for these 'PS2' connectors, so I just plug the ancient keyboard straight in.   I have had one of those adaptors though, as ironically, my previous (ie older) PC didn't have PS2 sockets, so I bought an adaptor, so as not to spend $10 on a new keyboard 😄

Yeah... I definitely need to invest in a new keyboard!   The keyboard I'm using is a Dell keyboard from circa 2003.   But my rig and GPU is only 1 year old.  I seem to be an absolute scrooge and miser where spending money on keyboards is concerned 😄

Wow, I didn't realize anything still had those old connectors.  Maybe I just never looked for them 😁

Anyway, check out holiday sales for a decent mechanical keyboard.  They have a horrible markup and are often overpriced, but if you hunt around you can find good sales.  Search for reviews and you can usually find some good deals.

Just pay attention to what kind if keys it has if it is mechanical and if it is clicky or not.

And think long and hard before buying a downsized keyboard like ASUS Scope II which is a 96% sized board. It's a great, solid, well-featured keyboard but the alteration to key layout from a full-size drives me crazy. I would NEVER buy anything but a full-size in the future.

Switching to a Keychron Q3 HE which is 80% TKL was the best peripheral decision I have made in decades. Hands down the best keyboard I have ever owned. There isn't a single key I miss from my K100.
