So I was thinking about how I could try to change the conversation from PMDG 737 upgrade pricing and then...BAM!... it happened again. So I decided to make my distraction post about this:-  😊

Do many of you suffer from the MSFS 2024 issue (acknowledged by MS but no fix yet) where your keyboard stops working?  It almost always happens on the Aircraft dialogue screen for me.   I am about to open the EFB to set my fuel and payload, I hit TAB and.... nothing happens.  Then I hit ESC and nothing happens.   And that's it. The keyboard has no further effect on the sim (it works fine in Windows, in the background, so it's definitely not hardware-related). The single only way to resolve the issue is to 'hard close' MSFS2024 with the task manager and relaunch.

I really hate this bug!  It's now happening for me about once every 3 days.  I tend to launch a new 2024 session about 4 times per day, so you could say that it's around 1 in every 12 launches for me.    Some users have said that unplugging and re-plugging the keyboard in resets it.   But I try that every time and it's never worked.

I'd love to hear whether other users are tortured by this anoying bug and if so, whether it's with the same frequency that I see it.  I'd love to track down and isolate what it might me in my hardware, settings and use that makes it happen so often.

The only issue I have had is where I found that some of my F keys (which I had set for various functions in MSFS)wouldn't work.  I found this was down to a conflict with TrackIR which was using the same keys.

I dare say that there may be conflicts with other apps you might run alongside MSFS, though TrackIR is the only one that caused me to go searching to find the issue.

No, this isn't related to conflicts with other functions.  It's on MS/Asobos log.  It's a core MSFS2024 issue where it 'loses' the connection with the keyboard (for some reason).   Doesn't seem to happen for everyone though.    I do have a pretty ancient keyboard, so perhaps it's related to that 😊  Maybe time to buy another one from Asda for £9.99 😄

But I've had those TrackIR F-key conflicts too 😊   F7 and F8 I think.   Man I love TrackIR. 😎 I've been using it since 2004, with FS9 (TrackIR v1).   I'm onto my 3rd one - not bad for 21 years!

Yes, this has happened to me in MSFS2024 more often than I would like ... usually after quitting and restarting of SIM, or something similar (nothing wrong with my Keyboard; I unplug and plug the USB back, and it starts working). Exact reason unknown ...

BTW, there was a similar thread here a short while ago.

last time i had this happen i duplicated the default msfs24 keyboard profile, then set that as default and locked. havent had the problem since.

So far, only when my brain has stopped working on untangling binding conflicts.😎

Does this only happen with wireless keyboards? Mine is wired and I have never seen this problem.

I've had it a couple of times.  It is rare but it has happened.  The keyboard just stops working in sim.  It hasn't happened enough for me to bother finding a solution.  Usually I pull the wired keyboard out and back in and that fixes it.  

It is definitely something in the sim, as the keyboard works anywhere outside the sim.  Alt-tab, ctrl-alt-delete all work, anything that is not a sim command.  Esc is a sim mapped command so it doesn't work.  

I'm not much help other than to say, "me too".

I'm using an USB keyboard and no problem with both fs20\24.

I've experienced this too, not quite often but sporadically, and I use wireless keyboards.

I have experienced USB ports not waking up when my PC goes into sleep mode, though this generally only seems to affect my controller, but I guess it could affect USB keyboards and mice as well.  I stoppped this within the power settings menu of windows.

Mine is wireless & I get it occasionally. Always thought it was the keyboard & I clear it by taking the battery hatch off the back of the keyboard & 'rolling' the batteries, replace hatch & off I go. Hmm😀

I had problems with wireless keyboards since FSX and P3D, then I decided to switch to an USB G413 SE Logi and no more problems with "empty" keys.
