December 17, 2025Dec 17 Hi all, I decided to go all hotas in msfs2024, so without needing a keyboard or any other devices anymore. There's one setting i just can't get right though. Not even after watching numerous control setting vids on Youtube....and even asking Chatgpt which gave me a lot of solutions...which were all wrong. So i came to understand this is more difficult than it seems. So what i want to achieve in msfs2024 is simply this: I want to use one button to toggle between cockpit view and external view, that's easy enough, but then in external view i just want to freely pan around the aircraft with my hat switch. And somehow i just can't get this right, not with any option like external freelook or any of the other external view settings. So is there anybody who can tell me exactly how to achieve this? I have the Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, so enough buttons. Big thanks! December 18, 2025Dec 18 You'll want the "External Look" bindings for this... if you are using the hat for both internal and external panning, the buttons will be binded to multiple things (for example, "Cockpit Look Left" and "External Look Left" when you move the hat left). This is for momentary switch hats though... not sure if it works the same for analog hat switches. Edit: It looks like the Honeycomb has an 8-way hat just like my old CH Yoke... you may have issues with the diagonal directions, for instance, if you accidentally hit left before up-left... I basically just kept trying until it only registered up-left for that position. Edited December 18, 2025Dec 18 by Funky D
December 18, 2025Dec 18 Works fine. I have the hat switch on my joystick setup exactly like this - dual bindings for both cockpit view and external view (all the left right up down etc ). since you can’t be in both views at the same time, it works great. Whatever view I use, I can move the camera with the hat switch. 9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen

Great, but what exact External View do you use for this, since there's a whole bunch of them like External Freelook etc. MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Plus | Intel Core i9-10900K @ 5.3GHz | 64GB Corsair Vengeance | Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3090 | 500 GB M.2 NVMe for win | 2TB M.2 NVMe for FS2024 | TrackIr v5 | Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo | Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog Eric from EHAM, a flying Dutchman.
December 18, 2025Dec 18 Author Thanks Noel. So i see you use Axis for panning, could that be the secret? I'll try it out tomorrow. Your controller needs to have a 'mini joystick' for this to work. This has a pitch and yaw axis like a normal joystick. Both my VKB Gladiator and STECS have a 'ministick'. As Noel explained, you assign the cockpit or external view yaw and pitch axes in MSFS to the axes on the ministick. I mainly use a Tobii to look around.
